The students
were excited!
There would be
party on the
weekend and they
were asked to
help with the
school
arrangements.
The teachers let
the students
know that they
would need the
help of everyone
because of how
much they had to
do. Happy to
participate, the
students
volunteered to
help.
 |
- Very well! So
those who want
to help should
come to school
on Saturday at
eight in the
morning. Those
who collaborate
will get one
more point in
their grade.
Agreed?
Satisfied, the
students raised
their arms,
offering
themselves to be
at school early
on Saturday. But
some did not
want to work,
and one of them
said:
- I am not going
to get up early
on Saturday just
to help the
party... I
rather sleep!
On the appointed
day, the
students arrived
early at
|
school,
ready
for
work.
The
teacher
in
charge
brought coloured paper
and scissors so
that they would
make flags. To
others she gave
the task of
making posters,
pasting pictures
and inviting
everyone to
party. And so,
those who were
still arriving
received a
different job. |
Everyone was
happy, enjoying
working together
and chatting.
Later, one of
the students
showed up and
seeing everybody
working, asked
for help too to
which he was
accepted joining
the group.
Others kept
arriving and
also received a
task to
perform.
At the end of
the day, the
teacher went out
for a minute and
saw a student in
the street doing
nothing, and
asked him:
- Why are you
not helping too,
like your
classmates?
- Oh, teacher!
Yesterday I
missed class
because I was
not well and I
did not know you
needed help. But
I would like to
work too!
- So go to
school and find
a job. There is
work for
everyone.
The boy felt
happy and went
to school, where
they told him
what he could
do.
 |
Thus, on the day
of the party,
they were all
happy and proud
of the work
done. The school
looked amazing,
beautifully
decorated, which
enchanted
everyone and the
party was
excellent. It
was a success.
Students and
teachers felt
proud of the
beauty of the
celebration.
Monday, the
students arrived
commenting on
the great party,
how everything
had |
gone all
right,
and how
all the
guests
had
loved
it. |
The teachers
thanked the
students for
their help and
gave each
student a point
more in their
grade, as had
been agreed.
However, those
who had come
first to the
work complained,
thinking they
were wronged.
One complained:
- Teacher! We
will all receive
the same, that
is, one point
more in our
grades?
- Yes, Marcelo!
That's what was
agreed to show
appreciation for
the help of
those who
worked.
- Teacher, but
there are
students who
arrived at the
last minute and
are getting the
same thing! Do
you think it is
fair?
The teacher
thought for a
moment and
replied:
- Marcelo, I
just asked that
you helped to
organise the
party. Can’t I
give those who
worked only one
hour, struggling
to make the best
of their time,
the same I gave
those who came
first? Who
arrived last but
made an effort
to make up for
the lost time
should not
receive the same
thing?
- But we worked
at school all
day, teacher!
- That’s true,
Marcelo.
However, during
that time you
played, had fun,
ate, talked, and
not only worked.
Now George, who
arrived at the
last minute
because he was
sick, did his
best to make up
for the lost
time. Doesn’t he
deserve to get
his share of the
collaboration?
Marcelo hung his
head, not very
satisfied, but
understood the
point of view of
the teacher. He
apologised to
George, for
having treated
him badly and
gave him a hug.
Philip, the
youngest in
class, heard it
all in silence
but once the
issue was
resolved and
noticing that
they were all
silent,
murmured:
- The teacher is
right. Jesus
would act the
same way if He
were here.
Everyone turned
to him and
someone asked:
- Why did you
say that,
Philip?
- It is what
Jesus taught in
a parable that
talks about the
same subject! -
he explained.
The teacher
smiled to see
that such a
small student as
Philip knew the
words of Jesus
and asked:
- Have you read
this parable,
which deals with
the Workers of
the Last Hour?
- It was the
text that we
read in the last
meeting of the
"Gospel at Home"
we do every week
in our house -
Philip said.
- Oh... And why
do you do it...
the "Gospel at
Home", Philip?
- Because it
helps everyone
involved,
teacher. With
just half an
hour it makes
our home more
cheerful, full
of peace and
love, by
studying the
words that Jesus
left us.
Hearing that,
the students
said they would
like to
participate as
well, and
Philip,
satisfied,
invited them to
come to his
house next
week.
The class, which
had begun so
difficult, with
Marcelo
complaining
about the
benefit that the
teacher had
given to the
students because
of their effort
at the party,
now was fine.
The teacher
agreed, saying:
- If all
students want to
participate in
the "Gospel at
Home" in your
home, Philip,
why not do our
own "Gospel"
here in class?
We can arrange
for Monday, at
the start of
school, if half
an hour is
enough… What do
you think?
All students
liked the idea
and applauded!
On Monday, they
would do their
first study of
the "Gospel at
Home” in class.
