Ripe orange
Uncle Juca had planted an orchard and was working on it
when he discovered among green fruit a beautiful large
ripe orange. It was the first of the oranges season. It
was very hot that day and he was thirsty. So he
exclaimed with satisfaction:
- Delicious! I already have something to refresh myself!
Gladly, he opened the pocketknife to peel it. But before
he began, uncle Juca thought of his wife who would also
like that appetizing ripe fruit.
- Joan must be hot too, cooking near the stove. I'll
take this first orange to her from our orchard.
The wife was very happy with the unexpected gift.
Instead of eating it, however, she remembered her
daughter who was soon to arrive from the creek where she
was washing clothes.
- I'll save the orange for her. She's carrying the
clothes in the sun. She will get hot. She will
appreciate this juicy orange so much!
Therefore, she stored the fruit for her daughter, who
really loved receiving it upon arriving home. But just
as the parents did, the girl also, before savoring the
delicious orange, thought of her brother who would soon
return from the sale where he went to sell vegetables
from the garden and spoke decisively:
- The sun is strong outside. My brother will come back
tired and thirsty... He will delight in these
juice-filled buds!
And happy, with the idea of benefiting her brother,
she ran to the door to wait for the boy who did not take
long to arrive.
The brother satisfied with the memory of the girl
examined the beautiful fruit. When he was about to peel
it he remembered his father and said:
- It's our father who must taste it. It’s him who works
without resting in the orchard and it was he who planted
the tree that gave such beautiful fruit. And so without
hesitation he went to see his father who moved thanked
the son for the affection.
That night, however, after dinner still gathered around
the table uncle Juca thanked God for the happiness that
reigned in his home. Then, to the surprise of the
family, he put on a plate the beautiful ripe and
appetizing orange and everyone could delight in the
buds, savoring it together.
