Theme: Good deed
The hole
on the boat
A man was called at the beach to paint a boat. He
brought paint and brushes with him, and began to paint
the boat of a bright red color, as he was hired to do.
As he painted, he noticed that the
paint was passing through the bottom of the boat. He
realized that there was a leak on it and decided to fix
it. When he finished painting, he took his money and
left.
The next day, the owner of the boat
sought out the painter and presented him with a nice
check. The painter was surprised.
- You already paid me for the
painting of the boat - he said.
- But this is not for the painting
job. It is for fixing the leak on the boat.
- It was such a small service that I
didn't want to charge. Certainly, you're not paying me
so much for something so insignificant!
- My dear friend, you did not
understand. Let me tell you what happened. When I asked
you to paint the boat, I forgot to mention the leak.
When the boat dried up, my children took it and went out
fishing. I wasn’t at home at that time. When I came back
and noticed that they had left with the boat, I was
desperate, because I remembered that the boat had a hole
on it. Imagine my relief and joy when I saw them
returning safe and sound. and I realized that you had
fixed it! Do you see what you did now? You saved my
children's lives! I don't have enough money to pay you
for your 'little' good deed...
