Theme: Attributes of God, differences between God and
Jesus
The Nature of God
Rafael was in his bed getting ready to sleep. Every
night, his mother prayed with him.
Finishing the prayer, Cristina said:
- Thank you, my God, for today! And
may we have a blessed night of rest and peace! So be it!
Rafael opened his eyes and asked:
- Mom, we always pray to God. Does He
hear what we say? Does He know everything that happens
in the whole world?
- It was God who created everything,
Rafa, not only our planet Earth, but the entire
universe. He knows and takes care of everything, all the
time. That is why He does hear the prayers of each one
of us, who are his children - replied Cristina.
- So, he really is the most powerful
man in the world, isn't he?
Cristina smiled and clarified:
- God is not a "man", my dear. People
are the children of God. He is our Creator, but it
doesn´t mean that he is a person like us.
- What do you mean, Mom? Isn't God
Jesus? Asked Rafael, confused.
- No, honey. Jesus is a Spirit
created by God, just like us. Jesus was the most evolved
Spirit ever born on Earth and brought us many teachings
about God. Therefore, we call Jesus "our brother" and
God "our Father".
- But nobody knows what God is like?
Has anyone ever seen Him, Mom?
- You can't see God with your eyes,
son, because He has no matter. All matter was created by
Him, but He is not material. We are far from knowing the
nature of God, we can only know a few things through
thought and feeling.
- What for example? Asked Rafael,
curious.
- Well, let me see... You can tell
that He is eternal, in other words, that He has always
existed. God is also unique. And because he is only one,
He is the creator of everything and knows everything, so
He is all powerful. Furthermore, He is immaterial and
immutable. Finally, He has the greatest justice and the
greatest love in the world!
Rafael paid attention to his mother's
words, but he didn't quite understand.
- But how did God always exist? He
must have been born one day. And where was He, if the
universe did not exist yet? What was in the universe's
place before its creation?
Rafael frowned in thought.
Cristina then proposed:
- Son, I will tell you a story:
“Once upon a time there was a very
good and wise man who wanted to understand the mysteries
concerning God. One day he thought a lot about these
things, but he felt frustrated because he couldn't
understand it.
He went to bed and dreamed that he
was walking on the beach, when he saw a boy with a
bucket in his hand. The boy had dug a hole in the sand
and poured the bucket water into it. When the child was
returning to the sea to get more water, the man asked
what he was doing.
The boy replied that he wanted to
take all the sea water and put it in the hole.
The man was astonished and said:
- But don't you see it's
impossible? How could all the immensity of the sea fit
in a small hole?
The boy then transformed into an
enlightened being and said to the man:
- And how do you intend to
understand the whole nature of God, with the limited
capacity of a man?
The man woke up and realized that
that dream was the explanation he needed. He understood
that we do not have the capacity to understand all of
God's superiority, yet.”
- Do you understand, dear? -
Continued Cristina. - We are spirits in evolution. One
day, we will be able to understand more about God, just
like Jesus, but for the time being, we can´t.
- Okay, Mom, I understand - said
Rafael, resigned.
- But don't be upset, son. What we
already know is the most important thing: that God is
always with us and takes care of us closely, because He
loves us so much!
As it was getting late, Cristina
kissed Rafael and said:
- Goodnight Sweetheart. Sleep with
God!
Rafael was sleepy. He just smiled and
said:
- Good night mom!
