Theme: Value of little things
The value of little things
It was Saturday afternoon. Maurice was at home and
unwilling to leave for the appointment he would have it
soon.
He was part of a group of young people from the
spiritist center that he attended with his family. The
youth had scheduled an activity to help homeless people.
They raised money, bought the ingredients and in that
afternoon, they were going to prepare sandwiches to be
distributed in the early evening.
At first Maurice liked the idea, helped to plan the
activities, but now that the day came, he was lazy and
thought:
- There will be other people there. I won't be missed
much. That's why the work is done in groups, so that
everything works out even if someone is absent. Yeah,
I'm not going!
Maurice lay down on the sofa to rest for a while and
soon fell asleep. While sleeping he began to dream.
He found himself leaving the house and walking down the
street. As he walked, he realized that things were very
different. The landscape was strange. There was almost
no vegetation. Everything was dry and dusty.
Maurice was curious. What was going on? Suddenly,
someone came up to him and explained:
- You don’t know? It is the discouragement of small
things.
- What? What do you mean? - Asked Maurice.
- It's just that the little things that build up a big
thing started to think that they weren't important, that
the other parts of the big thing didn't need them. And
so, they are deciding to stop doing what they do. One of
the first to stop was the raindrops. Every drop thinks
it won't be missed. But without each one, rain does not
form. It hasn't rained for several days because of that.
Bees and other insects have also stopped. They say that
flowers pollinating in the world is a huge job and that
each one of them will not be missed. Not even the honey
the bees are producing anymore, because the hive no
longer receives the nectar that each worker used to
bring.
Maurice looked at the trees and saw only branches.
- Let me see if I got it. The leaves are also thinking
that they are not needed to form the treetops, right?
- You got it! - Said the person who was talking to him.
Maurice was sad to see everything transformed. Worried,
he started running back home.
When he saw his house, however, he remembered that it
was made of bricks. Immediately one by one, the bricks
began to come apart and the house began to fall apart.
Desperate, the boy started to shout:
- No! Don’t do it! Please, bricks, each one of you is
very important! I want my home! Maurice woke up crying
and was relieved to realize that it was just a dream and
that everything was fine.
Still lying down, he was thinking about his dream and
his commitment to other young people. He understood that
he was just one person in the group, but the group
needed him, as they needed everyone.
He looked at his watch and saw that there was still
time.
Maurice then got ready very quickly and went to the
spiritist center to help his group in the activity they
had planned.
