The restart
It
was Sunday, Felipe and his mother were reviewing the
list of school supplies. They needed to pack the
backpack for the next day, as the holidays were over,
and classes were coming back.
Felipe was not excited at all. He was
sad by the end of the vacation and worried that the
subjects would certainly be more difficult.
“It will start all over again! A lot
of classes to attend, tasks to do, and the worst: tests
and more tests.” Felipe's mother noticed his son's
frown, and brought up a subject:
- Are you happy to see your
colleagues tomorrow, son?
- No! I don´t even know if they are
coming back - he replied sadly.
- Of course they are! - Said the
mother - They must already be preparing, just like us.
Try to cheer up, dear, it'll be great tomorrow.
- I even may enjoy meeting the guys,
but what I don't want is having to start the class
routine again.
- Having the opportunity to study,
learn and then be a well-formed adult is one of the best
things that can happen to a child. So, let's do it like
this: focus on the part you like. Think about your
friends, the notebooks that are still brand new, the
tasty snack you will take and the games at the patio.
The rest is coming slowly, there is no use worrying
before the hour. It's ok?
Felipe nodded and tried to do what
his mother recommended.
The next day, he went to school. At
the time of he was leaving school, his mother picked him
up.
- So, son, how was your first day?
- It wasn't bad... The new teacher is
very good and a new boy entered the class, very nice. In
science class I knew the answers to some questions. I
remembered last year's classes and the teacher praised
me. And we went to see the garden too, but that was bad.
- Why, son? You liked it so much in
the past. Your class planted lettuce in the garden,
didn't they?
- Yes - replied Felipe - Every week
we took care of the plants. But on vacation nobody took
care of them. The garden was abandoned. Bush grew in
everything, you can't even see where the beds were,
where the paths were. We'll have to redo it.
- No problem, son. Now you know how
to take good care of a vegetable garden, so it will be
easier. In life everything is like that, everything has
cycles, and each time we learn a little more. I'm sure
the garden will look even more beautiful than it did
last year, and that you will have a great year at
school!
- Yeah, I think it will! It will be
all right! - Felipe said smiling, feeling encouraged to
return to his activities.
His mother also smiled, pleased to
see that her son was learning that renewal is part of
our lives. And that a new beginning is always a new
growth opportunity.
