Theme: Do not let your left hand know what your right
hand is doing
André's charity
|
Mr. André lived in a small town and owned a
warehouse where he sold food. He was a very good
man, thoughtful to people and, therefore, his
trade had good customers. |
He used to offer candy to the children, who called him
Uncle André, and he got happy with their smiles.
Many people passed by his store, but few knew about
André's good deeds.
From time to time, André attended poor people, who had
no money to buy all the food they needed. But he always
found a way to help them. So trying to avoid that they
could feel embarrassed, he disguised his help.
André used to make mistakes on the bills on purpose to
charge less. If, even so, the person still did not have
enough money to pay, he would say:
- The other day, when you come back here, you bring the
money and pay me. So, I'm not going to lose my client,
okay?
But he never charged the debt afterwards.
At the time of wrapping the goods, it was common for
André to put treats in the bag, as he knew that certain
customers could never buy sweets, even if they wanted to
eat one.
André often prepared bags with several groceries and
took them, at night, to the poorest neighborhood in the
city. Without anyone seeing him, he left the bags at the
door of the homes of needy families.
André was always helping the needy. If it was only up to
him, no one would get hungry.
Time passed and André got old. One morning, he was not
feeling good and asked his neighbor for help over the
phone. The neighbor came quickly, but found only André's
body lying on his bed.
The end of his incarnation had come and his spirit,
freed from matter, was received on the spiritual plane
by his loved ones.
André, now in spirit, soon recovered from disincarnation
and was very happy to see that he was among enlightened
and good spirits. Very tender, they explained that he
had overcome the tests of life, since he had been a true
Christian and relieved the hunger of countless brothers.
André, humble as he was, thanked them moved, without
feeling himself deserving of so much happiness and
recognition. He felt that he had done only what his
conscience asked.
André never got rich, nor he had an important position.
On Earth, he was an ordinary person. But, to God, he had
great value.
