Theme: Gratitude to God
The acknowledgment
Julio came home very hungry. He went straight to the
kitchen where he found a cake on the table.
The boy ate the cake and found it
delicious. He was so pleased he wanted to thank his mom.
– Thank you, mom! – he said aloud so
that his mother could hear.
– For what, son? – said the mother,
entering the kitchen.
– For the cake – Julio replied – It
was delicious and it killed my hunger.
– Oh! I bought it from the baker. He
did it, thank him.
Julio then went to the bakery and
said:
– Thank you very much, Mr. baker. The
cake you made was delicious and it killed my hunger.
– Boy, no need to thank me. Baking
the cake was easy. Thank the farmer who planted and
harvested the wheat.
Julio went to the farmer and said:
– Mr. farmer, today I was hungry and
ate the cake my mother had bought. I thanked her, but
she told me to thank the baker who had baked the cake.
But he said you were the one who deserved the thanks for
growing the wheat. Thank you very much!
– Oh boy, don't thank me – said the
farmer – I just planted and harvested, but who made the
wheat to be born was the sun. Thank it!
Julio looked up, saw the radiant sun
and thanked the sun for the delicious cake that had
satisfied his hunger. But the sun didn't accept the
thanks either. It said that it could not have done
anything alone. It urged the boy to give thanks for the
rain that had awakened the wheat seeds and then watered
the plants until the grains formed.
The boy then looked for a well-laden
cloud, which was already beginning to pour out its
drops, and thanked it for watering the wheat, which the
sun had raised, which the farmer cultivated, which the
baker used as flour to make the cake, which her mother
bought it, which was delicious and satiated his hunger.
The rain heard the whole story.
However, like the others, it said:
– Don't thank me! The wheat grains I
roused to germinate were ready. I wouldn't have done
anything without them. God is the one who gives life to
all things, he is infinite wisdom and love and who
controls, with his laws, everything that happens. It was
divine providence that allowed you to have your hunger
satisfied by a delicious cake. Your mother, the baker,
the farmer, the sun and I just made small parts,
fulfilling God's will and being his instruments.
Everything comes from God! Thank him!
After talking to the rain, Julio
returned home. It was already late in the day. The boy
went to his room and, thinking about what had happened
and the explanation he had received, he just closed his
eyes and said:
– Thank you, God!
