Theme: Acquisition of virtues
Learning to fly
Mrs. Thrush was very happy. She had taken care of her
two cubs with dedication and now they were all grown up,
ready to learn to fly.
Mrs. Thrush gave them the necessary instructions and
told them they could start. The cubs were very excited.
The first bird climbed the edge of the nest, flapped its
wings hard, began to rise into the air and... fell.
When he fell, he bumped his little feet on the edge of
the nest and fell backwards in a sitting position. The
brother laughed at him.
- Why are you laughing? - scolded the mother - That's
just how we started. Now it's your turn, let's go!
The second chick climbed into the nest and got ready,
but when it was time to try to fly, it gave up.
- You can go again, brother. I want to see how you do
it.
Mama Thrush didn't like the idea. But the other was
excited to try again and was already taking the lead.
The second attempt was not much better than the first.
The bird fell too, only this time, out of the nest. With
great effort, he managed to balance himself on the
branch.
Showing a lot of effort, he flapped his wings again, but
without gaining height, so ended up going to the ground.
Mama Thrush flew to him, encouraging him and giving
recommendations.
From above, still in the nest, the other brother watched
everything. He wanted to fly like his mother, but he
wasn't the least bit excited to be like his brother. He
found the situation ridiculous. He would be ashamed if
the other birds saw him unbalanced, falling, trying and
failing again and again. He wanted to wait a little
longer, until his wings were stronger.
When his brother, with great difficulty, made it back,
he was a little grimy and very tired, but he was happy.
The next day, he managed to do much better. He continued
practicing and pushing himself until in a few days he
was able to fly.
The bird that had stayed in the nest, however, was not
feeling well. He realized that the nest was already too
small for him, but he knew that learning to fly was not
easy.
One day, his mother decided to talk to him.
– Son, you're worried about the fact that you'll have to
learn to fly, but I'm not! Do you know why? Because I
know you can do it. And God knows you can do it too! He
created us that way, with that ability.
- But Mom, it's hard to fly, you must work hard, try
several times, fail many times...
- Yeah, I know! It's hard, yes, but we still manage.
That's why it's so cool. Only those who make the effort,
those who learn can fly. Flying is special, it's a
wonderful feeling, and it was God who prepared us for
it. But if we fly, it's because we've conquered this
ability. There's a lot of ourselves in “being able to
fly”.
Mrs. Thrush continued:
- Honey, don't get too fixated on difficulties. Your
brother, I, God, and all the other birds know you're
learning. And we also know that falls are normal in this
process. Of course you will make an effort not to fall.
But if that happens, get up, look up, stretch your chest
and wings, and try again. One hour you will make it! You
were born to fly!
The wise guy listened carefully to what his mother was
saying and realized that she was right.
So, he began his attempts. He fell a few times, as it is
natural. His brother also wanted to laugh at him, but he
hid it.
He got better with every attempt, until he finally got
it.
The day he was able to fly well for the first time, his
mother and brother came to him. The three flew together
and he felt very fulfilled and happy.
