The king and the bee

Once upon a time there was a king named Solomon. His fame was known far and wide, besides having many riches, he was also very wise and was admired for it.

One hot sunny afternoon, a bee flew into the room where the king was. The guards, wanting to prevent her from sting the king, rushed to try to kill her, but the king stopped them.

- Even a little bee like that is a useful being and must stay alive - he explained.

So, the bee was spared, and the guards just moved their arms to get her out the window.

One day, the ruler of a neighboring kingdom decided to challenge King Solomon's fame and, willing to see if he was really as wise as they said, he went to visit him.

The neighboring sovereign proposed to King Solomon many riddles, all of which were solved without difficulty.

The visitor then had an idea and proposed a final challenge to the king. He went to the royal garden and picked a beautiful flower from there. Afterwards, he ordered his artisans, who were excellent artists, to make 99 artificial flowers that were identical to that one.

King Solomon was called to find, among all those flowers, the only true one.

The artists' work was really perfect and the king, as hard as he tried, could not find any difference among the flowers.

It was then that the king heard a buzz near his ear and saw that the bee had entered his palace again. He followed the flight of the small bee with his eyes, which flew over the flowers and landed on one of them, the only one that had nectar.

King Solomon smiled, took the flower, and said:

– This is the flower from my garden.

The defiant sovereign was disappointed. He returned to his kingdom astonished, having to admit that the king's fame was authentic.

King Solomon, who was really very wise, and who had benefited from a simple bee, knew that no one is so great that never needs help, and no one is so small that cannot help.
