Theme: Guardian Angel; complaint
Mauro and his guardian angel
Mauro was asleep but woke up with the sound of alarm
clock.
In a bad mood he mumbled:
- What an annoying noise! I can't
stand listening to that unbearable alarm clock every
day. I have to get another one as soon as possible!
Mauro had to go to work. He lived in
a big city, far from his job and, even driving, he took
a long time to get there, because there was always
traffic.
So, he quickly got dressed, ate his
breakfast, and got into his car.
Mauro had acquired a bad habit!
He complained about everything!
That day, in addition to the sound of
the alarm clock he also complained that he didn’t have
nice clothes, that he had just run out of peanut butter,
that his house was far from his work and that his car
was not as good as his neighbor's.
His guardian angel always listened,
with sadness, to Mauro's complaints and realized that
this bad habit was doing a lot of harm to him.
Mauro was becoming a pessimist. He
couldn’t see the bright side of things. He thought that
everything in his life was bad and as a result he felt
very unhappy.
Therefore, his guardian angel, that
day accompanied him to his work more closely.
Right at the beginning of the route,
Mauro entered an avenue and had to stop at the red
traffic light. A young man approached him, showed a sign
informing that he was deaf and asked for a contribution
of two reais for a small package of candy being offered.
The guardian angel, taking advantage
of the opportunity, transmitted his thoughts to Mauro's
mind. He then realized a problem that the boy should
face. He was taking risks there, among the cars, he
could even be run over. He remembered how much he liked
listening to music and thought that even the unpleasant
noise of the alarm clock was better than hearing
nothing.
Mauro bought the candies, waited for
the light to turn green and continued.
Ahead, the car stopped again due to
traffic jams and Mauro saw, sitting on the sidewalk, a
man, with torn and dirty clothes, who extended his hand
to each person who passed him, asking for alms.
With the help of the guardian angel,
who tried to teach him, Mauro recognized how good it was
to have a job. Even if it was far from home. It was a
blessing to be able to work, to earn a living.
He had money to buy good enough
clothes for what he needed to wear and money to buy
yummy food and not starve.
Continuing his way, Mauro also saw a
woman in a hurry, carrying her purse and a heavy bag
with effort. She ran towards the bus stop, trying to
reach the bus that was stopped there leaving some
passengers. But the woman failed to get to the bus stop
in time. The bus left and she had to wait for the next
one. Mauro could see in her face how disappointed she
was.
Once again, under the friendly
influence of his guardian angel, Mauro thanked God for
that car, which made his life so much easier.
Arriving at work, on time and in
peace, Mauro said good morning to his colleagues.
- Good day? I wish! Today is Monday!
We still have a whole week to work - said one of the
companions.
Normally Mauro would also complain
about Monday, agreeing with his friend, but that day, he
was different. He felt good. He didn't answer anything.
But he found that comment he used to make quite
unpleasant.
At coffee time, another colleague
said:
- I want my coffee with lots of
sugar! Life is bitter enough!
It was common for Mauro to hear, or
even make, that comment, but that day he was upset to
hear his friend speaking as if he found life bitter and
bad.
When Mauro finished his shift and
returned home, he was seeing everything differently. He
saw the neighbor's car but was not envious. He thanked
God for everything he had, including his car. He felt
happy and wished that the neighbor was also happy with
the goods he owned.
Fortunately, Mauro welcomed the good
thoughts of his guardian angel. In the days that
followed, he often felt like complaining, as this was
already a habit for him. But, little by little, Mauro
started changing claiming for gratitude and without
realizing it, he also became much happier.
