Let's go in faith
Rodrigo lived on a farm with his parents, who were
workers there.
Once, when a colt became ill, the vet
was called and he examined him carefully and prescribed
medicine. In a few days the animal was cured, was eating
again and playing in the field.
Rodrigo, who was very fond of that
colt and had followed the entire case closely, was very
impressed with the knowledge of the veterinarian and
with his ability to relieve and cure the animals.
Every time the vet returned to the
farm, Rodrigo ran to follow him and see what he was
doing. Over time, he had memorized the name of several
diseases and remedies.
The more he learned, the more he got
excited about the profession, and he was sure that's
what he wanted to do when he got older.
A few years passed and Rodrigo became
a teenager, and a change took place. He stopped saying
he wanted to be a veterinarian. When the subject came
up, he changed the conversation.
His mother, realizing that something
wasn't right, asked Rodrigo why he was acting like this.
- Ah, Mom, I would still like to be a
veterinarian yes, but I find it very difficult to
happen. You have to study hard! You have to go to
college. I will have to live abroad. We won´t have the
money for that!
- Son, it is difficult indeed! But
it's not impossible. If that's what you want, you must
be committed and have faith.
- What is having faith? - Rodrigo
wanted to know.
- Faith is the feeling we have when
we know the power and love of God and trust Him -
replied the mother.
And then she explained:
“When I wake up in the morning, I am
already grateful for the rest I had and for the great
day I will have. I trust God to do the best for me that
day. I start my routines around the house early, I cook
and everything that is my part. And I know that God is
doing His part so I can have a successful and happy
life. It's my faith.
Come on out there, I want to show you
something.
Look there at your father at work,
planting the seeds for the next crop. In his hand,
they're just little balls. But he knows their potential.
So, he puts the seeds in the ground; he fertilizes,
takes care, observes if they have sprouted, if they are
growing well... But he also trusts in God. The rain, the
sun, the conditions of the harvest, the sale price are
not things he can predict. Even so, your father must do
the best he can, confident that God is also doing the
best. This is an act of faith.
You're too young to give up on your
dream, son. Anything can happen in your life. We don't
know God´s plan for you, but we know it will be for the
best. You must have faith in God and faith in yourself
too. If you really want to be a veterinarian, this will
give you strength to overcome difficulties. Do your
part, son! Let's go in faith!”
Rodrigo understood what his mother
had taught him. He regained confidence that his dream
would be possible and became a great student at the
school. He continued to be interested in helping with
the care of the farm animals. Everyone knew that Rodrigo
studied and worked hard to become a veterinarian.
What they didn't see was that he was
praying too. He always thanked God for everything that
happened to him and asked God to guide his life to what
was best for him. When something didn't go right,
Rodrigo was upset, but he understood that it was some
learning that life offered him as well.
Life went on and many things passed
through it. A lot of study, a lot of tests, joys,
frustrations. Many prayers and also many people who
helped Rodrigo, including the owner of the farm, who had
known him since he was little. Rodrigo always remembered
his mother's words: “Let's go in faith!”.
Rodrigo's graduation´s day from the
College of Veterinary Medicine was one of the happiest
days of his life.
Rodrigo became a great veterinarian,
who treated and cured many animals. But beyond that, he
also became a man of great faith.
