Today is going to be a great day!

Carlos woke up with the alarm clock ringing. There was no light in the window, it seemed that it was still night.

It was 6 am and Carlos was sleepy. He wished he could sleep more, but he had to wake up to take his mother to the doctor. She was already quite old, had health problems and had scheduled for exams that morning.

Carlos got up, looked out of the window and saw that there were so many dark clouds in the sky that the sunrise was even overcast. The wind swayed the plants, and a heavy rain would not take long to fall.

– Wow! What a difficult day this will be! – Carlos said, grumbling.

Even discouraged, he got dressed and went to his mother's room to wake her up.

To his surprise, Mrs. Cida was already on her feet, had already changed and said excitedly when she saw him:

– Good morning son! Not good, great! Because today is going to be a great day!

Carlos found the old lady's excitement strange. He thought she didn’t remember that it was her medical exam day. Or that she hadn't realized they would need to leave the house in the bad weather.

– Mom, do you remember that today you won't be able to have your coffee, which you like so much? That today is your medical exam day and you have to do them with an empty stomach, without eating anything?

– Of course, I do, Carlos, I'm old, but I don't lapse! – She said, giving a delicious laugh.

Carlos, still in a bad mood, continued asking:

– Do you know that in addition to not having breakfast, you will have to stay in the laboratory waiting for your turn? And that we have to get there early, and that you're going to have to get an injection before the exam?

Mrs. Cida, realizing that Carlos was only seeing the bad side of things, replied:

– Yes, Carlos, of course I know. I listened very well to what the doctor explained.

And Carlos, still seeming to want to test his mother's good spirits, said:

– And to make matters worse, the day started with horrible weather, cold, wind and rain. Still think it's going to be a great day, Mom?

Mrs. Cida had many years of life and many well-lived experiences, which taught her important lessons. So, calmly she said:

– My dear, you just said it yourself, so you know very well the challenges that we will have today. What do you think is better? Do we go through them with optimism, with good humor, with trust in God, or with pessimism and bad mood?

– I'm getting ready to have the best day possible today – Mrs. Cida continued – Today is going to be a great day, yes! I have your support to accompany me, I have the opportunity to take care of myself, I have a coat and umbrella to protect me, and I will get closer to God, because I am praying a lot that He blesses me and that everything goes well. If I already start the day bad, it will be much more difficult, but if I put in my mind and heart that today is going to be a great day, I will definitely have a much better day, don't you think? – asked the lady, with a smile.

Carlos listened carefully to what his mother told him and couldn't help but recognize that Mrs. Cida was right. Then he gave her a hug and said smiling:

– You're right, Mom! Today is definitely going to be a great day!
