Peace in the world
Gabriel and Gustavo were brothers and were always
together. They went to the same school every day. They
had the same friends, were invited to the same parties
and, if one went on a ride, the other was always there.
They lived together a lot, but unfortunately this
coexistence was not peaceful. They argued over
everything. They didn't lend anything to each other or
help each other.
Mrs. Daisy, their mother, was very sad about this
situation. She scolded the boys and tried in every way
to educate them to respect each other.
One day, the boys fought at lunch time. Gabriel was
angry because Gustavo ate all the chocolate cake.
- I didn't eat it all. You had already eaten in the
morning! - said Gustavo.
- And? You had also eaten in the morning! And now he
gobbled half the cake alone - replied Gabriel.
- But you ate much more than me! - retorted Gustavo,
already irritated.
- I didn’t! You are a sweet tooth! - shouted Gabriel.
- You are! - Gustavo shouted back.
Mrs. Daisy arrived and interrupted the fight. Gabriel
went to his room, closed the door, and went to play his
video game. Gustavo went to the living room and started
watching a movie.
The film Gustavo chose was about an alien invasion. He
liked films like that, fiction and adventure, and he
loved that one. He was so involved in the story that he
didn't even see time pass.
When the movie was over, he was excited. He ran to tell
his mother.
- Mom, I watched a great movie! The ETs were invading
Earth because they identified that the human species was
at war with each other and deserved to be exterminated.
But then they called the peacemaker, who was an ordinary
man, but who managed to make people understand what was
happening — said Gustavo, excitedly. — The peacemaker
managed to put an end to the conflicts between the
people of Earth and then, all together, they convinced
the ETs to respect them. In the end, everything worked
out and he saved the world!
- Son, you really liked the peacemaker, huh!
- I loved him! I want to be just like him when I grow
up. And one day, who knows... save humanity!
- That’s great, Gustavo! I am very happy to hear you
talk like that, with good ideals. If it is in God's
plans for you to help the nations one day, I am sure you
will do a good job. But you know what, honey? If you
really want, you can start saving humanity now!
- Do you swear? Can I? But how? - asked the boy,
confused.
- The humanity that God is inviting you to save today
lives in that room - said Mrs. Daisy, pointing to the
door of Gabriel's room.
Gustavo realized what his mother meant and lost some of
his energy. But she continued:
- The peace of the entire world depends on each person.
We can contribute to peace by getting along well with
those around us. That's all we can do. It doesn't seem
like a big deal, but it's important because everything
big is made up of small parts. For there to be peace in
the world, there has to be peace among the people who
live together.
- But living with Gabriel is difficult, mom - said the
boy, already discouraged.
- Son, a good peacemaker has to find a way. Isn't that
what the peacemaker in the movie did? Jesus left us good
guidelines for getting along well with our neighbors.
How about you use them with your brother?
Mrs. Daisy ended the conversation and left Gustavo
thinking. He didn't like it very much, but later he had
to admit that she was right.
Gustavo then made the decision to be more patient with
Gabriel and always be careful to avoid fights. Gabriel,
day by day, noticed that Gustavo was changing and began
to reciprocate his brother's good behavior.
From time to time something unpleasant happened, but
more and more they learned to overcome challenges and
respect each other.
Over time, they succeeded: they grew up in peace, like
true brothers.
The world is not yet completely at peace, there is a
need for other people to also act as peacemakers, but
the part that fell to the boys, they did very well.
