Interview

By Orson Peter Carrara

A Spiritist worker who
has been leaving his
mark in several areas

Guaraci de Lima Silveira (photo), was born in the Brazilian city of Oliveira Fortes, in the state of Minas Gerais. He is a retired writer, journalist, playwright and Spiritist speaker in the city of Juiz de Fora. He is well-known across the country for his efforts to disseminate Spiritism. During the coronavirus pandemic, he boosted his online presence and is now the presenter and coordinator of programmes in many Spiritist channels. In the following interview, he talks about his experiences in the Spiritist Movement:

The Spiritist Teachings are a source of inspiration for all of us. How many books have you published, thanks to your hard work and dedication?

As a medium, I’ve written 23 Spiritist books. Four of them, I believe, haven’t yet been published. I’ve published some other books on the website of the CREGS Spiritist Group in Rio and also, in instalments, in the Ciência e Espiritismo Magazine.

Which one of them had the biggest impact regarding the development of the Spiritist Teachings?

The biggest impact came from the three books from a trilogy I published, which addressed the life of Jesus on Earth. They are called Tocados Por Ele (Touched by Him), Incomparável Presença (Incomparable Presence) and Encontros na Palestina (Meetings in Palestine). There’s another book, Histórias Mediúnicas (Mediunimic Stories), which is also widely used in study groups across the country.

What were the biggest obstacles during the process of psychographic, or automatic, writing?

I didn’t really have any problems. I never do. It’s important to remain connected all the time to what the Gospel says. That, as a matter of fact, can be quite difficult because we are still imperfect and we need to make a concerted effort to achieve that. But if you manage to do that, psychographic writing becomes a natural process and, as a result, we end up living a sensible life, avoiding the unhappy diversions that are put before us.

Where do you broadcast your Spiritist programmes?

My programmes are broadcast on four Spiritist radios and one FM station:

Brasil Espírita Radio, from the city of Maceió – Tuesdays at 11 am, local time

Estação da Luz Radio – from Natal – Tuesdays and Fridays, at 09:15 and 10:10 am

Radio Club FM – Juiz de Fora – Mondays and Tuesday, at 07:30 pm

Which one of these is more demanding and why?

I enjoy doing all of them. But the programmes with live questions and answers are the most demanding. The questions asked sometimes address issues that go beyond the subjects we were studying. So it’s important to be as prepared as we can. If necessary, I do a search there and then or, if that is not practical, I come back with a more comprehensive explanation in the following programme.

Where do we find your channel?

I don’t have my own channel. I take part in programmes, which are recorded and can be accessed later, on the YouTube channels of the following groups:

GRESG – Estudos Espíritas

Gotas de Espiritismo

Portal do Consolador.

What is your assessment of the Spiritist Movement before and after Covid?

Before the pandemic, we were expecting the Spiritist Movement to become ever more dynamic. After the pandemic, uncertainty prevails. Many volunteers who worked in Spiritism went away as they feared being killed by the virus. But a virus will only kill you if you are in a frequency that allows that to happen. The virus will only speed up a process that is already under way. It’s not the cause. But there’s a lot of fear and insecurity involved.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We need to have an urge to learn something new every single day. Someone who doesn’t enjoy reading, studying, researching and putting all that into practice can’t be considered a true Spiritist. When we study we expand the brain connections that enable us to be free through knowledge, as Jesus taught us. We must understand that, as a vast field of knowledge, Spiritism is a set of teachings with lessons for everyone, regardless of their beliefs.

Leave us with your final thoughts.

I would like to express my gratitude for this occasion and I would like to say that I need a partner to publish a new book about abortion. It’s called Reencontro – Uma visão Espírita (Reunion - A Spiritist Vision). This book comes from a theatre play that I wrote as a medium. It was a huge success for ten consecutive years and it has now been adapted. It’s an elegant novel, which provides great value. The best way to contact me is via WhatsApp, on + 55 32 988211789.
