Theme: Value of work

Pete’s “spell”

It was a cloudy morning and the trees in Joseph's yard were swaying in the wind. Joseph liked taking care of his house and thought about asking his grandson Pete to join him.

Joseph looked for the boy around the house and found him sitting at the table, sighing.

- Well, Pete, what is it? The sky is a little gray, but it's still a beautiful day outside. What do you think about enjoying the
morning helping me in the yard?

- I'd love to, grandpa. But my mother said I can only go out after I finish my homework. But it's a lot of work! I wish to know how to do magic so the lesson could be completed by itself.

- Magic, you say? Well, come with me - said the grandfather. - I have a “spell” to teach you.

Pete jumped up and ran to the backyard.

- A spell? How did you learn to do magic? Is it very difficult? I cannot wait for that! - the boy chattered as he ran around his grandfather. - What will we need?

- This is a spell for beginners. Even children can do it, with a little effort. First, we're going to need a broom.

Pete quickly got the broom and waited for new instructions, very excited.

- Let's use the spell to gather all these leaves that the wind brought. Now, before saying the magic words, you need to visualize what you want to do in your mind. Are you ready?

Pete had his eyes closed, concentrated. He imagined the leaves dancing through the air, doing acrobatics and finally gathering into a big pile in the middle of the yard.

Still with his eyes closed, Pete heard his grandfather speak the magic words: "Through my will and determination, I will make my wish come true. I want all the leaves collected, I think and then I'll see!"

Pete opened his eyes and looked around, hoping to see the magic that would clean the yard. Instead, he saw his grandfather raking the leaves.

- Grandpa, what are you doing? The magic that should bring the leaves together!

- But this is the magic, Pete. The magic of work achieves everything. You'll soon understand.

Pete watched his grandfather raking the leaves and realized that, if it weren't for him sweeping the floor, the yard would still be full of dust and leaves.

- Thinking is half of the magic, my grandson. Visualize what you want to happen and then put it into practice! You will see that you will soon get what you want.

Pete returned to his notebooks more determined. He closed his eyes and repeated the words his grandfather taught him: "Through my will and determination, I will make my wish come true. I want my homework done, I think about it and then I'll see it!"

Pete finished his homework faster than he imagined. Even after many years, whenever he had to face a very big task, he would remember the “spell” that his grandfather taught him:

“Through my will and determination, I will achieve my wish. I’ll make it, I think and then I’ll see it!”
