O Consolador (The Comforter), 11 years later
 
This magazine celebrates 11 years in this current edition and it prepares itself to begin its 12th year next Sunday.

It has never been explained in the magazine the real reason that took us to create the magazine O Consolador (The Comforter) in 2007. Eleven years later, it seems to us that it is about time.

Many spirit houses have been appearing in Brazil due to dissent opinions or sort of disagreement among people. The evil, which should have been avoided, becomes the good, it means, the birth of other space for practice and spread of Spiritism.

In our case, it was something like that.

We were only two people at the beginning. At one side, someone who glimpsed at internet an important mean of diffusion of spirit ideas; at the other side, a person discouraged with the spirit journal he acted over 20 years as editor.

From the discontent of one and the enthusiasm of the other, this magazine was conceived in March 2007 and launched the following month, precisely on April 18, when the spirit world celebrated the 150th anniversary of the publication of the first edition of the Spirits’ Book, by Allan Kardec.

For those who fight for serious journalism, there is nothing worse than censorship, above all when it comes from its direction area and it is, besides it, motivated by only friendship.

If a spirit work is a disservice to Spiritism, it is our duty, not just the right, to criticize it. The direction of the cited period did not, however, allow the criticism to be made.

There are critics and critics.

We refer to serious, substantiated, without bad faith critics or hidden interests. It happened that the director of the journal did not know the difference.

It was like that it appeared O Consolador (The Comforter), founded by two people who never saw each other before. It was only necessary two short meetings of 15 minutes each. It was decided the general idea of the magazine on the first; on the second, its title. The meetings occurred in March, 2007.

In a period of thirty days between the two moments – the magazine conception and its initial launching number in April – a significant number of collaborators and writers got together to the founders and since then many new companions have joined to this endeavour, which it has permitted to us to come so far.

We are happy with the results and for all that has happened to us in these 11 years, we have only to thank the Creator, the friend Spirits and the companions who have been by our side, without whom the initial dream would have been a chimera.
