Children who kill their parents and the causes of afflictions

The national media has frequently reported crimes against life, including children who kill their parents. Justice and society are appalled because no one has the right to threaten the lives of others.

The detachment from the Divine Laws can lead families to adverse and prolonged afflictions. The redemption of past life mistakes is necessary for the moral improvement of individuals within the families.

This article is about compromising past lives, drug use, selfishness, ambition, children’s ingratitude, obsession and lack of love. From a Spiritist point of view, knowledge of the Moral Laws and the practices of good, love and charity help to understand and improve family relationships in our lives.

Of the facts

On October 31, 2002, Suzane Von Richthofen, 18, a young woman from the upper middle class, killed her father and mother in the family's own residence. The crime was committed with the help of her boyfriend, Daniel Cravinhos, and his brother, Christian Cravinhos. This fact had great repercussion in the Brazilian media and, after the trial, the young woman was sentenced to 39 years and six months in prison.

On 08/20/2018, the website g1.globo.com published the news of the arrest of Gilcimar Gomes da Silva, 40, who killed his father, a 78-year-old elderly man, in the city of Confresa, in the state. from Mato Grosso.

In view of these news, the question arises: - What makes a child kill his parents?

Trying to understand the vicissitudes of the present life, many questions arise in our minds, whether we are Spiritists or not. It is necessary to understand Divine Justice and the commitments of past lives.

From a Spiritist perspective

What is the responsibility of those involved and what are the consequences of their actions? The Gospel According to Spiritism teaches us that the father who was a bad son may suffer due to his children’s behavior.

The Gospel According to Spiritism says even more: “There is no fault, however slight, any infraction of His law, which does not have compelling and inevitable consequences, more or less deplorable”. Hence it follows that in small things, as in big ones, man will answer for the consequences of his faults. We can thus reflect on a possible paternal expiation of past lives.

One cannot think of injustices suffered by those involved in the facts, because God is sovereignly good and just; therefore, the current causes of afflictions must be considered to originate in present or past lives.

Many parents do not fight their children's bad tendencies, leaving them to become selfish, proud, vain and dry-hearted. In the future, these parents will be able to reap the indifference or ingratitude of their children.

Jesus said, "Love your neighbor as yourself". It is up to the parents to cultivate the Law of Love as a family to contribute to the formation of character and the moral improvement of those entrusted to them as children. Parents will endure the disgust and share in the suffering of their children in the future life, if they are to succumb.

As stated in question 583 of The Book of Spirits, parents are not responsible for their child choosing the path of evil, if they have given him all possible care. The father will have great merit in leading his son on the right path, especially when he has a great tendency to evil.

Some parents neglect their duties and do not fulfill their role, but it is up to Divine Justice, and not the children, to blame them. The law of love and charity taught by Jesus requires that evil be paid for with good, especially when it comes to the relationship between parents and children.

Some mothers can’t stand their children, and this fact can be a proof that the child chose, because he was not a good father, good mother or good son in another incarnation. A bad mother creates embarrassment for her son, so that he fails his test. Still, the child will be rewarded for the obstacles he faced.

Allan Kardec comments in The Gospel According to Spiritism that it is necessary to observe obedience to the commandment “Honor your father and your mother, in order to live long in the land that the Lord your God will give you”. “Ingratitude is one of the most direct fruits of selfishness. Honest hearts always rebel against it. But that of children towards their parents has an even more vile character”.

We should always do good without waiting for thanks or reward for the good done. If, at times, we receive ingratitude as an answer, we must reflect and seek understanding in the Justice of God.

The Gospel According to Spiritism teaches that "if God allows you to be paid sometimes with ingratitude, it is to experience your perseverance in doing good".

Life on Earth is a passage, from which we take our defects and virtues and, in the search for evolution, wishing to practice charity through forgiveness, we request the return to a body in the family of the one we detest. Permanent contact with the one we hate is a great test, in which, in order not to succumb, we will need a lot of discernment and willpower.

If some antipathies are not justified by facts that occurred in the current existence, they may have their roots in past lives; so we can understand the hatreds, grudges and rejections between parents and children on the earthly paths.

Although everything in the Universe is governed by natural laws, through free will, it is up to the Spirit to yield or resist temptations. One can consider the death of a father by his son under the aspect of ingratitude, lack of honor and the choice of man to act according to his will, thus assuming the consequences of his actions.

Causes and consequences

The use of illicit drugs is the cause of numerous crimes against life. Nowadays, several people use drugs for several reasons: to fill existential emptiness, to diminish sadness, to escape from reality, lack of love, etc. The inversion of values in our society has taken young people to the world of drugs and, consequently, under their effect, to commit crimes against their parents.

The desire for wealth and greed has transformed men, leading them to commit crimes in search of material goods and superfluous life. Material goods acquired improperly or through a crime will imply accounts to be rendered before the conscience itself, when it is awakened or expanded.

After the death of the parents, the children may recognize their value, as well as that of the spiritual life at the expense of material life. In this life, nothing is by chance.

Selfishness, this wound of humanity, has led men against men and children against parents. If there was more love between families, more charity would be practiced and fewer crimes would be committed.

In The Gospel According to Spiritism, Allan Kardec states that life, when impregnated with selfishness and pride, will always be a career in which the smartest will win, a struggle of interests, in which the most holy affections will be trodden underfoot, in which not even the sacred bonds of the family will deserve respect.

Still reflecting on cases of children who kill their parents, we cannot also rule out the possibility of hidden influences from inferior Spirits on the thoughts and actions of those involved with the facts. According to Spiritism, Spirits influence our thoughts and actions much more than we imagine, but we have our free will to choose the path to follow, as well as the assistance of good Spirits who guide us to the practice of good.

Conclusion

We conclude that revolts and pre-judgments do not help to explain the facts. The knowledge and practice of Spiritism help to assimilate the lessons that life presents us.

We cannot judge children who, due to events in past lives, prove to be ungrateful, nor can parents and children who have been offended or hated each other in other lives. They all carry their guilt, evidence and expiation.

Faced with the veil of forgetfulness, we do not know all the ties that bind our current life to past lives, let alone the notion of the immensity of the relationships that connect us to family members and those with whom we relate in this existence, envisioning the evolution of all.

The Gospel According to Spiritism understands that filial piety is a corollary of the general law of charity and love, because he who does not love his parents cannot love his neighbor and, as we all know, “one cannot truly love God without loving the neighbor, nor love the neighbor without loving God”.
