It has been
160 years since Barcelona's
auto-de-fé
On October 9, 1861, at half
past ten in the morning, on
the city's esplanade, at the
place where criminals
sentenced to death by
tourniquet were executed,
three hundred spiritist
volumes or brochures were
burned by order of the
Bishop of Barcelona. Rogério
Miguez analyzes, in a
special article, the sad and
lamentable episode that, as
we know, was not able to
suffocate Spiritism, whose
main work - The Spirits'
Book - had appeared only
4 years before.
Professor Luís Fernando Baia
Antonietto, from Campinas
(SP), is our interviewee
this week. Professor of the
discipline of History at
UNIP - Universidade Paulista
in Campinas, he participates
in the spiritist works of
the activities of Morada
Espírita Prof. Lairi Hans,
where he works in study
groups. The interview, given
to our colleague Orson Peter
Carrara, is one of the
highlights of this edition.
Another highlight is the
Special “The Animal Pain”
(“A Dor nos Animais”) by
Eurípedes Kühl, from
Ribeirão Preto (SP). If
animals have no conscience,
why do they suffer? Is
neutering animals a
transgression of some Divine
Law? Is it reprehensible to
euthanize an animal that is
suffering from an incurable
disease? These are some of
the issues examined in the
light of Spiritism in the
aforementioned article.
