O Consolador:
How was your
first contact
with Spiritism?
I first got in
contact with it
when we moved to
Brazil, in
1975.
O Consolador:
Was there a
specific fact
that happened at
the time?
Yes, my dad
disincarnated in
1981.
O Consolador:
What was your
family’s
reaction?
My husband
didn’t like it
very much. At
the time, my
children were
little, but then
they started to
attend spiritist
teachings for
children.
O Consolador:
Which of the
three aspects of
Spiritism
(Science,
Philosophy or
Religion)
attract you the
most?
They all
interest me,
since they
complement each
other.
O Consolador:
Which spiritist
authors you like
the most?
Emmanuel, André
Luiz, Bezerra de
Menezes, Joanna
de Ângelis,
Manoel Philomeno
de Miranda,
Allan Kardec,
Hermínio
Miranda,
Herculano Pires,
Léon Denis,
Yvonne do Amaral
Pereira...
O Consolador:
Which spiritist
books would be
considered to be
essential for
any starters in
Spiritism?
All books
codified by
Allan Kardec
such as The
Spirits' Book,
The Gospel
According to
Spiritism, What
is Spiritism and
Spiritism in Its
Simplest
Expression. I
would also
recommend
André Luiz
collection and
Emmanuel
collection.
O Consolador:
The doctrinal
differences in
our movement are
not many. One of
them talks about
the secular
Spiritism. Is
Spiritism a
religion for
you?
Yes, it is. The
Spiritist Guides
show us
Spiritism is a
Philosophy, a
Science and a
Religion.
Spiritism
connects us
directly or
indirectly to
the spiritual
world. I can not
imagine
Spiritism
without
Jesus.
O Consolador:
Spiritist
practice
sometimes
presents
differences
related to
so-called
standardized
passes, proposed
by Edgar Armond.
Although we know
the most common
procedure is the
laying of hands
as José
Herculano Pires,
what’s your
opinion about
it?
The healing
should be as
simple as
possible, as our
Master Jesus
thought us. We
should study it
to get to know
the energy and
cooperate better
with the
Spiritual Guides
who are
responsible for
this task. The
efficiency of
healing does not
depend on the
way it it
applied, but on
the wish to help
and serve. We
procedure
followed at the
spiritist centre
I am part of is
the laying of
hands. We all
follow this
technique, but
it does not mean
everyone does it
in the exact
same way.
O Consolador:
How do you see
the discussion
about abortion?
Abortion a very
important topic
in our socity.
It is imperative
for Spiritism to
give our
contribution to
it. We need to
explain,
recommend and
make people
aware of the
topic on the
light of the
Doctrine. We
should not
forget Spiritism
is a doctrine
that aims to
educate but not
impose its
teachings to
someone. I
believe we
should not be
extreme about
it.
O Consolador: Euthanasia is a practice that has no support from the
Spiritist
doctrine. Kardec
and other
authors, such as
Joanna de
Angelis, got
their point
across already.
Lately, though,
there has been
this idea of
orthothanasia,
even backed by
Spiritist
doctors. What is
your opinion?
This is a
complex topic
since Spiritism
defends life and
the use of
medical and
scientific
progress to
preserve it.
Euthanasia is a
crime through
God’s eyes,
because we do
not have the
right to take
someone’s life.
Besides, we know
by doing it we
are causing
damage to this
Spirit by taking
their
opportunity away
to reflect
before the death
of the physical
body.
I find it
difficult to
give my opinion
on it. The ways
and methods that
lead us to
disincarnation
could vary a
lot. They are
part of our
experience and
spiritual
progress.
O Consolador: Have you had contact with the Brazilian Spiritist
Movement? Do
you think it is
active in terms
of disclosing
the Spiritist
Doctrine?
I think the
movement in
Brazil is very
actice. Thanks
to God we have a
lot of contact
with it. We are
also in touch
with FEB
(Brazilian
Spiritist
Federation),
with the
International
Spiritist
Council (ISC),
and we try to
get involved as
much as we can.
Our country is
always helped by
these
institutions who
fraternal and
understanding of
the difficulties
faced in the new
born Chilean
Spiritist
Movement. In
September,
Divaldo Franco
is coming to
Santiago for his
second time; in
November we will
have our 2nd
Mediumship
Seminar. This
would not be
possible without
the support of
all these
institutions. I
believe we are
following a good
path and we are
really thankful
to Brazil and
the Brazilians.
O Consolador:
When and how has
the spiritist
movement in
Chile started?
I have read in
the 1960’s there
was a spiritist
conference
organised in
Chile. The
movement that
fade away, and
only a few
centres are
available
nowadays, but I
am unaware about
the principles
there are
founded into.
Our spiritist
centre was
founded in 1996.
We do as much as
we can to
disclose our
loved Doctrine,
according to
Kardec’s
principles. We
are always
concerned about
rectifying
misconceptions
or false ideas
in regards to
Spiritism.
O Consolador: Are there many spiritist groups in Chile?
There are som
groups who meet
regularly and
follow Kardec.
We are the only
group in Chile
that is actively
involved with
the activities
organised by the
International
Spiritist
Council (ISC).
O Consolador: How accepted are the spiritist teachings in your
country?
We live in a
very Catholic
country where
dogmas are
rooted into the
society. As a
consequence,
there is a lot
of misconception
and misticism in
regards to
Spiritism. Some
people think it
is a sect with
witches or
exorcists.
Therefore, we
realise that
with a discret
but constant
disclosure of
the Spiritist
Doctrine we are
reaching hearts
and minds of
people who are
ready to
understand and
accept these
principles.
O Consolador:
How do you see
criminality and
violence in our
country? How can
Spiritist help
in this
situation?
I have heard of
very high levels
of criminality
and violence in
Brazil and
worlwide. We
should not loose
our optimism or
stop fighting
against it
because of these
news. If we all
disclose the
spiritist
message in
society, we are
contributing and
helping to
revert this
problem. It is
imperable for us
to lead by
example. We
should apply the
teachings
learned in
ourselves in
order to promote
it to everyone
else.
O Consolador:
The preparation
for the advent
of a world of
regeneration in
our planet
already gave its
first steps, as
we are aware of.
How long will it
take for Earth
to stop being a
world of tests
and atonements,
and become a
world of
regeneration?
I am very
optimist about
it. The world of
regeneration in
Earth is already
present in many
hearts. Let us
look at what we
are today and
what we were ten
years ago. We
have accomplish
a level of moral
progress within
this period.
This preparation
is real and is
happening slowly,
progressively
and surely.
Although there
is violence out
there, the
Doctrine teaches
us this will
rely on the
level of
arrogance and
self-fishness
that is around
social
relationship.
Let us remember
it is not
possible to
extinguish these
two issues in
only one
incarnation.
O Consolador:
What do you
think should be
the priority for
spiritists’
leaders in
regards to the
problems society
is currently
facing in Brazil
and worldwide?
We should
prioritize the
formation of
spiritist
workers to teach
Children and
Youth, disclose
the Doctrine,
work on social
assistance and
lead by example!
O Consolador:
What does
Spiritism mean
to you?
It means to me a
path to a happy
life, progress,
personal effort
and constant
work. Spiritism
is very
important for me
very, since it
teaches me to
live in a better
way in this
world.
