 Text for reading

1. The Gospel of Mark - The Evangelist Mark, having been, as the most accepted view, mainly converted by the preaching of Peter, which therefore calls son, went on 44 years in the company of his master to Rome, where he wrote his Gospel the bodies of the faithful who, wishing eagerly have written these truths heard from the mouth of Peter, they asked him to write the Gospel proclaimed by the great apostle, for they serve as a perpetual monument of the doctrine he espoused. Written by probably 67 or 68 years, Peter has approved the text, and to show that felt authentic, ordered it read in all churches. (The Holy Bible, Book edition of Brazil, Volume I, pp. XXIX.)

2. John is arrested and Jesus begins to preach - Mark begins his narrative speaking of John, who appeared baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. The whole province of Judea and the people of Jerusalem went out to John, being baptized by him in Jordan, when he confessed his sins. Wearing only a camel fur and carrying a leather belt around his loins, John food was locusts and wild honey. Soon he was baptized by John, the Lord the Spirit drove to the desert, where he spent forty days tempted by Satan. Jesus then lived among the beasts and the angels ministered to him. Only after John was arrested is that he went to Galilee, where he preached the gospel of the kingdom of God, saying: "The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the gospel. " (Mark 1:1 to 1:15.)

3. Jesus does not let the demons speak - Leaving the synagogue, where he had made his first healing, Jesus was the home of Peter and James and John, where he also healed the mother of Simon, who was lying down with fever. In the afternoon, when the sun set, they brought him all that were sick and possessed. The whole city was gathered at the door and he healed many sick and cast out many demons, but would not let them speak, because they knew him. The next day, very early, he invited his disciples to go to neighboring villages, to preach there, because it had to come. Thus, he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out demons. Approached him, then a leper, rising to his knees, said: "If thou wilt thou canst make me clean." Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out his hand, touched him and said, "I will be clean." Then dismissed him, saying, "Look, do not tell anyone, but go, shew thyself to the priest and offer for thy cleansing what Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them." The man, however, began to disclose what had happened, so that he could no longer enter openly into the city, keeping themselves out in desert places, which did not prevent the parties from all the people come to him. (Mark, 1:29 to 1:45.)

4. No one puts new wine into old bottles - After Jesus invited to follow him Levi (1), son of Alpheus, who worked at the customs, the disciples of John the Baptist asked him: "Why do the disciples of John fast and the Pharisees, and your disciples do not fast? "Jesus answered them, saying," Can the children of the marriage probably fast while the bridegroom is with them? While they have the bridegroom can not fast, but days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then they will fast in those days. No one puts a patch of new cloth on an old garment: else the new patch that breaks the old, and the rupture is larger. And no one puts new wine into old bottles from another sort, the new wine bursts the wineskins and be spilled wine, and the bottles perish: the new wine must be put into new bottles. " (Mark, 2:14 to 2:22.)

5. The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath - Taking Jesus' disciples picked grain on the Sabbath, the Pharisees criticized, saying, "Why do they do on Saturday which is not lawful?" Jesus said them: "Have you never read what David did when he had need and was hungry, he and those who were with him?" And reminding them that David entered the house of God and ate up the showbread, asserted the Master: "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath. " (Mark, 2:23 to 2:28.)

Answers to questions

1. The Gospel of Mark says nothing about the birth of Jesus, because he starts talking about what John is that John - according to Mark - he spoke about Jesus? And how was your date?

John the Baptist preached, saying, "After me comes one who is stronger than me, which I am not worthy to stoop down to untie the strap of his sandals. I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit. " (Mark 1:7 to 1:11.)

2. In the synagogue of Capernaum, Jesus did - according to Mark - his first healing. As this healing took place?

It was the Sabbath day when Jesus entered the synagogue and began to teach. In the synagogue stood a man with an unclean spirit, who shouted: "What hast thou with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Vieste destroy us? Know who you are, the Holy One of God!" Then Jesus summoned him, saying "Shut up, get out of this man!" The evil spirit shook violently, and giving a great cry went out. (Mark 1:16 to 1:28.)

3. In Capernaum, being in a house completely surrounded by the crowd, Jesus healed a paralytic who was carried to him in a way unusual. How this happened and what Jesus said to him?

The paralytic arrived there carried by four men. As they could present it to them because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof above the place where Jesus was and, through an opening, down the bed on which the paralytic lay. When Jesus saw their faith, said to the paralytic, "Son, Your sins are forgiven." He added: "Arise, take up your mat and go home." At once he arose and took the bed, went away for all to see. (Mark 2:1 to 2:12 .)

4. Accused by the scribes and Pharisees for eating with publicans and sinners, that answer was given them by Jesus?

Jesus, to hear this criticism, he told them: "The healthy do not need a doctor but the sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners." (Mark, 2:15 to 2:17.)

5. Jesus asked his disciples who were always ready a boat with him. Why he made them such a request?

According to Mark the Evangelist, Jesus made this request because of the crowd so that she will not oppress them, because, having healed many, all who had some bad if pressed upon him to play. (Mark, 3:7 and 3:10.)
