Luiz Antonio
Domingues
(photo), who
was born in a
Spiritist
family, works as
a volunteer at
the Spiritist
Centre Portal da
Luz, in Dourados,
in the western
Brazilian state
of Mato Grosso
do Sul. He has a
degree in
Marketing and
Advertisement
and works in the
health
department of
the local
authority. In
this interview
he talks about
his
|
experience as an
Internet
broadcaster and
the web radio
station he
founded, Portal da Luz. |
When and how was
Portal da Luz
Web Radio
created?
It was on June
25th
2011. Many
people do not
know, but it was
the result of a
difficult period
in my life. I
was going
through
depression,
panic syndrome
and suffering
from spiritual
obsession. I
still lived
alone in Campo
Grande and could
only go through
the nights,
avoiding
possibly
committing
suicide, if I
tuned into Boa
Nova radio, from
Sao Paulo. O
connected it
through a
satellite dish
and that was the
only way I
managed to
sleep. After
going through
those difficult
times, I decided
to help other
people the same
way I had been
helped and
decided to found
the web radio.
Our website
address is
www.radioportaldaluz.com.
Where does the
money to keep
the radio going
come from?
In the
beginning, I put
in my own money.
Now I struggle
to find the
resources to
keep it going. I
sell CDs, books
and advertising
space on the
site in order to
raise funds.
How do you
structure your
running order
for a 24 hour
schedule?
As the internet
is global, we
reach people all
over the world,
mostly
Brazilians. Our
web radio has
been accessed
from more than
50 countries. We
need to find
alternative
times taking
into
consideration
the different
time zones.
What are the
main challenges
faced by the web
radio at the
moment?
The main
challenge to
keep our project
going is still
the lack of
financial
resources. Other
problems we can
overcome these
days thanks to
the amazing
technological
advances of the
past decades.
Otherwise, we
have the
permanent help
of our Spiritual
Benefactors.
Without their
full support I
would not be
able to do
anything. For
those who want
to help by
advertising on
our website or
making a
donation, please
contact us on
radioportaldaluz@gmail.com.
How many daily
accesses do you
get?
About 700
listeners access
our website
every day. In
May, we had a
total of 22,000
accesses. The
number has been
growing
steadily. As I
mentioned
before, we have
people accessing
from more than
50 countries,
like the United
States, Germany,
Portugal,
Israel, Japan,
Argentina and
Finland. The
listeners from
abroad are
usually
Brazilians. And
we get listeners
from all
quarters of
Brazil.
Tell us about
your experience
with live
broadcasts.
Our main
partner, Radio
Fraternidade,
has a long
experience in
live broadcasts
and they have
generously given
us their audio
in many
occasions
allowing us to
joint their
network. If we
had more
resources we
would be able to
do more on that
area. That is
one of my aims,
to take the good
news of
Spiritism, the
events taking
place in the
main centres, to
more remote
areas of Brazil.
A remarkable
experience we
had was when we
broadcast live
the talks of
Haroldo Dutra
Dias during his
April 2015
European tour.
Is there
anything else
you would like
to add?
It is always
very rewarding
when we get
emails from
people who thank
the radio and
say they have
been helped by
us. In May I was
recording a
programme at a
Spiritist Centre
when a medium
told us that she
had seen a huge
number of
spirits who had
been brought to
our meeting for
help and to be
rescued. Many of
them were being
rescued after
passing away
because of the
use of drugs or
after committing
suicide or in a
car crash caused
by excessive
speed.
There is also
the case of a
listener from
Israel who said
she switched on
our web radio
and put it on
top volume when
the country was
being targeted
by missiles.
With that she
managed to calm
down her
relatives in
Eliat.
I would like to
say, finally,
that the
Spiritist
Movement in
Brazil struggles
to get the right
to run their
television
channels. That
is probably why
we are well
ahead on the use
of the internet
to disseminate
the Teachings.
We can say we
have been
prepared by the
Spiritual World
to use the new
technologies.
That way we have
been able to
take the words
of Christ to the
most distant
corners of this
vast country,
reaching also
people with
mobility issues.
Thanks to the
internet we have
been able to
carry out this
amazing job of
disseminating
Spiritism.
