I was visiting a
friend when a
came across some
bookshelves,
full of books.
As I have always
been an avid
reader, seeking
constantly to
learn more, I
began looking
and a book in
special caught
my eye. It was
The Spirits’
Book. I
found the
questions and
answers format
particularly
interesting. I
began reading it
from beginning
to end, finding
in that book the
answers I had
been seeking for
many questions.
What
specifically
caught your
attention in the
book?
To find out that
life goes on
when the
physical body
dies, which
clarifies all
the questions we
have about our
future, and to
know that we
will always have
new
opportunities to
start again,
thanks to God’s
mercy.
How did you
begin your work
at the Obreiros
do Bem?
A friend of mine
who used to
attend the
meetings there
invited me. I
joined a study
group and a
mediumship
seminar, in
which I improved
my knowledge of
the Teachings. I
eventually
became a
volunteer at the
Spiritist
Centre.
What activities
do you have in
the Spiritist
Centre?
I coordinate the
mediumship
group, I
coordinate the
third year of
our Spiritism
course and I
also teach and I
a member of the
department that
deals with the
theoretical part
of Spiritism. My
experience at
the Spiritist
Centre was the
best thing that
has happened to
my life, as it
gave a meaning
to my life.
Finding
Spiritism made
me understand
that we all have
a goal when we
reincarnate and
that we must
always strive to
learn more in
order to improve
as human
beings.
Is there
anything
specific from
your experience
in Spiritism
that you would
like to share
with us?
The work in the
mediumship group
is particularly
relevant, as
discarnate
Spirits who are
suffering in
dark areas of
the Spirit World
reveal their
dramas and their
problems,
alerting us to
the direct
relation between
the behaviour we
have while we
are in the
physical life
and the
consequences in
spirit life.
What aspect of
your work
assisting
troubled
discarnate
Spirits touches
you the most?
It is when
through dialogue
we manage to
make them
understand their
situation and
that they must
accept the help
that is being
offered to them.
I feel them
satisfied and
leave with the
gratifying
feeling of
having done my
duty.
What is your
assessment of
the problems
faced by your
organisation and
the Spiritist
Movement in
general?
The main problem
seems to be the
lack of
commitment from
most people with
Spiritism. Many
people are more
interested in
getting the
benefits from
the Teachings
than giving some
of their free
time to work as
volunteers.
Tell us a bit
more about the
Obreiros do Bem
Spiritist
Centre.
I feel very good
there. It as
well respected
organisation
within the
Spiritist
Movement, a
place where
everyone gets a
warm welcome and
which tries to
fulfil the needs
of the people
who attend, but
always in
accordance with
the principles
of Spiritism.
Is there
anything else
you would like
to add?
I think we must
continue to
study and to
make ourselves
available for
any kind of
volunteer work,
with dedication
and joy, seizing
the
opportunities we
receive to help
our brothers and
sisters. We must
never stop
studying, so we
can be better
qualified to
perform the
various jobs
that we aim to
carry out in a
Spiritist
Centre.
