It happened last Monday
February 6 another
disembodiment anniversary of
the physician Joaquim Carlos
Travassos, which occurred in
1915, he was the first
Portuguese translator of the
main works of Allan Kardec.
He was born in Angra dos
Reis (RJ) in 1839. He was in
touch with spirit ideas in a
moment that from Allan
Kardec was found only two
booklets translated to
Portuguese: Spiritism
in its simplest expression and Introduction
to the study of the Spirit
Doctrine. As
a member of the educated
elite in the country, he
read the basic books of
Codification in its native
language, French. He
participated in the Society
of Spirit Studies -
Confucius Group, founded in
1873 and considered the
first Spirit Center of Rio
de Janeiro. It was then,
under the pseudonym of
Fortúnio, he translated the
first four works that make
up the so-called Kardichean
pentateuch.
