What was the
most noticeable
aspect of the
personality of
Dr Elias, based
on all those
years you lived
together?
Total dedication to his
family. He was humble when
treating patients and people
in general. The Gospel shows
that to progress spiritually
we need to have two wings:
knowledge and love, and
Elias had both. He studied
and researched Spiritism and
disseminated with precision
the teachings from the
Gospel.
What is your best memory of
the family life with him, at
your side and with your
children?
The chats and walks he had
with the children when he
took them to school or when
we travelled. He always
alerted them to the
importance of nature,
highlighting the role played
by the birds and the trees.
Elias was always available
to for the family’s
entertainment and
education.
From his experience in the
dissemination of Spiritism,
what would you like to
highlight?
He always ready and
available to attend the
invitations to speak for
free at Spiritist meetings,
talks, lectures, debates or
chats.
How many books did he
organise and publish?
He collaborated with the
medium, Chico Xavier, as an
author in 12 books. He wrote
prefaces for the books of
many other authors and
created and kept the
literary section of Anuário
Espírita from 1964 to 2011.
He published reviews on many
publications, especially the
complete works of Allan
Kardec, including the 12
volumes of the Spiritist
Review.
How about your friendship
with Chico Xavier? What is
your most remarkable memory
of those days?
I remember particularly the
meetings we had with Chico
Xavier on Tuesdays in our
house. He not only carried
out his work on Spiritist
books with Elias, but also
taught me how to make jelly,
which I didn’t know, Syrian
white cheese, cream and
other dishes. Chico was very
important for us, and he
still is.
What would you like to
highlight from your and your
husband’s experiences in
Spiritism?
I would like to highlight
the innumerable talks and
lectures, which I always
attended, when Elias
enchanted the public with
his broad knowledge,
inserting here and there his
light, refined sense of
humour.
When did he return to
Spirit? How did the physical
separation impact on you,
taking into account your
knowledge of Spiritism?
He returned to the Spirit
World on March 31st 2011.
Even though I miss him a
lot, I know that he still
next to us. It is just a
temporary separation.
What did your husband most
admire about Chico Xavier?
He described his profound
admiration for Chico
Xavier’s humility. Even
though he was such a high,
developed Spirit, he
considered himself a mere
“speck”.
Is there anything else that
you like to share with our
readers?
My first meeting with Elias,
on November 1st 1955
at Allan Kardec School in
Sacramento, in a ceremony
organised by the local
Spiritist community to
commemorate the death of
Eurípedes Barsanulfo.
Your final thoughts,
please.
I would like to express my
gratitude for everything
that he taught me and for
the frequent examples of
dignity, for being always
near his family, for his
sense of responsibility,
professionalism, his honesty
and honour and, most of all,
I highlight his altruism, as
in order to help others,
Elias even forgot about
himself.
