In the work of good, it does not take much to reach remarkable results
"If the search for spirituality is a constant in the present day, young people are not left behind in these longings. (...) today, college students in health area try to insert the spiritual component in their careers too, providing answers to their wishes and also filling gaps that have been opened up in health care." (Giovana Campos, author of the special "Youth are increasingly engaged in spirituality" one of the highlights of this edition.)
The young person, guided by his own disposition towards spirituality, realizes that in the care of his health it is necessary to have renewed attitudes that it can be part of his behavior, thereby renewing himself.
The transmission of the feeling of spirituality, like faith, does not occur through discourse. It is done through acts, so that it needs especially the committed caregiver to this transmission.
Formal discourse is usually incomprehensible to the patient. Very different from the speech that it finds in spontaneity many occasions to be manifested.
"The scenario of ethical, social, relational and political transformations that we experience so intensely reflects in a special way the youth of today." (Alberto Gorayeb de Carvalho, Coordinator of the Academic Department of AME-Brasil, from the highlights we refer to)
Of course, when we talk about young people, we must remember that we are facing a multifaceted category. In the present case, the focus is the young university student in the health area, such as Dr. Alberto Gorayeb expressly mentions.
"Regarding to our professional education for health, this scenario seems to be reinforced even more. In the meantime, I see spirituality as an opportunity to rescue the sense, purpose and meaning of our essential performance as 'caring beings'." (Alberto Gorayeb de Carvalho)
Be careful, this is the ultimate goal of health therapy. Nurses and nursing technicians have, as we know, a close relationship with the patient. As caregivers, you have the opportunity to pass, not only consolation, specific care, but spirituality sense. And not only them but also doctors, physiotherapists, psychologists, that is all health professionals.
"Caring presupposes full committal and dedication, conditions that may contradict social opinions and prevailing health models." (Alberto Gorayeb de Carvalho)
Approximation is seen as a deprecating attitude by those who espouse impersonality as a rule of conduct. But approaching the patient, establishing more than a commitment, a relationship in which the roles are defined by ethical norms, it proves to be very important and it opens the way for the transmission of the feeling of spirituality based on the attitude and behavior of the one who takes care.
How beautiful it is the care rendered with affection and love!
Let us imagine Florence Nightingale, with her lamp, reviewing the amputated soldiers, disfigured, blind, with a sweet and consoling word for every suffering soldier, aided by the young women to whom she had recovered dignity, and who then became dedicated nurses.
The small flame of the lamp shows that it takes very little to achieve remarkable results.
Emmanuel says that "our crumbs of goodwill in the willingness to serve holy, when brought to Christ, are worth more than all the multitude of evils of the world." (Vinha de Luz - Vine of Light, Chapter 91)
"How beautiful are the footsteps of the good news messenger who announces peace, who brings a message of goodness that proclaims salvation." (Isaiah 52: 7)
