The teenager in Brazil
and virginity
Poll made by UNESCO reveals that Brazilian teenagers are having sexual relations younger. As for girls, the average age is between 15 and 16 and more than 50% of the interviewees say that it is no problem to have sex before marriage. The questionnaire, according to the institution, reached 16,422 teenagers of 13 Brazilian capitals.
The situation of Brazil about this is not different from other countries, for instance, the United States.
Obviously, there and here we still see those who still prefer to be virgin until the great day, because scientifically speaking, there is no need of sex being exercised before marriage. In face of that, those who understand that the sexual practice should be associated to the existence of love between them are entirely correct to fight for that.
This is what has been happening, in some years, in the United States, where there has been an increase in the number of those who are for virginity before marriage in a campaign called True Love Waits.
Led by groups connected to different churches, the campaign has had remarkable results so far: more than 2,4 million of teenagers have already signed the document, willing to respect the vows of chastity, even though they know it’s easier said than done.
With effect, according to a poll done by the University of Columbia, which followed 12 thousand adolescents during eight years, only 12% of those who were committed to the cause kept it, what demonstrates that we need to have a firm will power to do what we have been engaged in.
