Ademar Constant
and other
friends funded
the Spiritist
Association
Cairbar Schutel
(AECS) on the
25th May 1956.
Its goal was to
create an
institution that
would study the
Spirit’s
Doctrine
following Allan
Kardec’s
methodology.
O Consolador:
Have the
activities of
social
assistance and
study of the
Doctrine started
together?
The study of the
Doctrine came
first. Soon
later, the
founders
realized in
order to follow
the Doctrine’s
teachings prayer
and healing was
not enough.
Under Ademar
Constant’s
command, it was
created
Ambulatory Pedro
Ernesto,
Group Scholar
Abraham Lincoln
and in 1973,
Mansão da
Esperança.
This is a home
for elderly
people. A very
spacious and
comfortable head
office was built
between 1958 to
1961 and it was
constructed with
funds from the
society from
Duque de Caxias.
O Consolador:
How many interns
are helped
there?
Mansão da
Esperança
and Novo Lar
help 40 interns
and have the
possibility to
attend 70
people.
O Consolador:
Where are the
funds coming
from? Does the
government help
it?
It is a home for
the elderly.
70% of the
interns’ pension
stays here and
the city hall
helps with a
small amount.
The rest comes
from our work:
we organise
charity lunches,
contributions,
donations, etc.
We also get
funds from the
adverts and
signatures from
the magazine
Aurora.
O Consolador:
What are the
medical
resources
available at the
institution?
Medical help is
done by a Doctor
and a Head
Nurse, who are
volunteers. We
also have a
group of
employees from
the medical
field such as
technicians,
assistants, and
other carers for
the elderly.
Besides, we have
two other
volunteers: a
social assistant
and a
nutritionist. We
have 20
employees:
cooks,
administrator,
driver,
management
assistant,
general
assistants, plus
the volunteers
who are members
of our
Association.
They donate part
of their spare
time for the
well-being of
the interns.
O Consolador:
What are the
biggest
challenges faced
and what are the
plans for the
future?
The challenges
are huge, but we
try to work on
them as much as
we can.
Our plans for
the future are
to fulfill the
rest of the
places available
at Mansão da
Esperança.
We are just
finishing one
building that
will be able to
accommodate the
elderly on
single rooms. We
are working with
the city hall to
implement a
project called:
“Help to
dependable
elderly”. This
project consists
on help to
elderly whose
families are not
capable to help
them at their
own home, which
is a massive
problem in
Brazil today.
O Consolador:
How does the
Spiritist
Doctrine
activity happen
at the spiritist
centre?
We only study
the five main
books of the
Doctrine as
codified by
Allan Kardec. On
Mondays, we
study The
Spirits' Book,
using Socrates’
methodology
by debating the
topics. On
Wednesdays,
The Mediums'
Book is
studied. It is
also studied
mediumship in
the same
meeting. On
Fridays, we
study either
The Gospel
According to
Spiritism,
Heaven and Hell
or The Genesis
from start to
end. We also
offer healing to
the present
audience and
prayer to the
disincarnated.
O Consolador:
When was the
magazine
Aurora
founded?
It is noticeable
the profile of
the magazine is
linked to the
activities of
social
assistance and
study of the
Doctrine which
is maintained by
the centre.
On the 9th
March 1979,
Aurora was
founded. This is
when the first
edition was
published. We
are now
celebrating the
magazine
30 anniversary.
It reflects The
Spiritist
Association
Cairbar Schutel
(AECS)
activities and
objectives. The
magazine is
distributed free
of charge to its
assistants but
also sent to
several places
in Brazil and
worldwide. We
print around
1.500 to 2.000
samples every
trimester, but
we know it has a
long way to go
in order to work
on the
disclosure of
the Doctrine,
which is the
main objective.
O Consolador:
Where does this
love and care
for Cairbar
Schutel come
from?
This is an
interesting
story. When we
looked for a
name for the
spiritist
centre, Bezerra
de Menezes came
into our mind,
but there was
already a centre
with this name
in our town.
Mr. Romeu de
Carvalho, who
was the first
President,
suggested
Cairbar Schutel,
but not taken
seriously. "A
centre with this
name will not go
anywhere ", some
people said. We
then researched
about Cairbar
and decided this
was the right
choice due to
his life
achievements and
examples. There
was a massive
campaign in our
Association to
disclose his
name in Rio de
Janeiro, since
he was unknown
at his hometown.
Several events
were organized
at the time with
this purpose.
O Consolador: Do
you have a
webpage
available for
the institution?
What if someone
wants to help.
How should they
proceeed?
We have a portal
www.mansaodaesperanca.com.br,
with links
to the
Association and
the magazine
Aurora.
The reader can
see the last
edition’s front
page and read
some articles
from past
editions. The
e-mail for
contact is
lauzemar@yahoo.com.br,
and telephone
numbers: (+55
21) 2771-7289 e
2771-2591.
O Consolador:
Can you please
give us your
final words?
I felt very
touched when I
was writing
about the name
chosen for our
centre.
Thanks to God
and Jesus,
Cairbar Schutel
was chosen.
The work he did
in order to
disclose the
Spirits’
Doctrine was
incomparable.
His strength and
determination as
well.
We always pray
to God to
inspire the new
coming
colleagues to
preserve the
institution as
it was founded.
Its main
objective is to
teach the
Spiritist
Doctrine in its
simplicity,
practice charity
and help one
another! If
followed, it
will set good
examples for
many, many years
or even
centuries. |
