Once upon a
time, in a
distant country,
there was a
Master who owned
a lot of land
and had many
servants.
He was very
rich, but had a
very generous
and kind heart.
He treated
everyone with
respect and
kindness. His
servants loved
him, as he would
always talk to
them with
respect and
consideration.
 |
He was very
demanding at
work. Therefore,
if he thought it
was necessary to
reprimand one of
the servants for
something they
have done, he
would do it with
kindness. He
never let the
servant feel
ashamed for the
attitude he/she
had.
One of this
Master’s
servants was
never happy. He
was hired to
work at the
Master’s
bedroom. He
would have to
help the Master
to dress up,
shower, choose
his daily outfit
and even comb
his hair. This
was a much
disputed
position in the
castle, as the
servant would
enjoy the
private company
of the Master.
|
The servant
started to
complaint he had
to obey the
Master’s orders.
He felt like he
wasn’t’ able to
rest at all. He
complained so
much his Master
decided to
excuse him from
these tasks. He
was recommended
to go and work
in the tableware
session. |
The post of
butler was much
disputed amongst
the servants,
since this
position
involved serving
the Master and
his guests. The
butler had to
behave calmly
and transport
the delicious
food from the
kitchen to the
dinner room.
He didn’t enjoy
this position,
as he complained
of the weight of
the plates and
the trays. He
also complained
that his clothes
got dirty from
carrying the
food around. He
was not enjoying
having to listen
to his work
colleagues
either.
After some time,
he was sent to
do cleaning
work. He would
be responsible
for the general
cleaning: he
would need to
clean the floor,
the furniture,
the staircases
and the windows.
He started
carrying his
broom and his
bucket, but
never stopped
complaining
about his tasks.
He considered
them too tiring.
The Master
didn’t know
where else to
place the
servant. He
thought for a
long time and
then decided to
say:
|
 |
– I believe I
found the right
job for you. You
won’t have to
obey anyone,
will be on
silent at the
time and won’t
have to clean
anything. I
think you will
enjoy this place
I will send you
to!
The Master sent
him to stable.
There, in
between the
animals, the
servant realised
he wasted so
many
opportunities at
castle. He was
now seeing how
happy and
content the
other servants
looked outside
the castle... He
was there; in
the middle of
the dirt, having
to work in the
stable...
This also
happens to us in
life. God, our
Father, gives us
all the
opportunities
and necessary
conditions for
our moral
progress.
Therefore, we
don’t make the
most of these
blessings He
offers us, just
like the unhappy
servant.
It is important
to thank God and
recognise He
knows better
what the best
for our spirit
is.
