Renato, who was
a business man,
was waiting for
a friend at the
point in the
city centre.
He realised
there was a
seven year old
boy at the
corner staring
at the traffic
light.
The boy looked
around and
realised one old
man was
struggling to
cross the road.
He offered to
help him kindly.
The boy then
helped this
person and
waited at the
other side of
the road.
Renato paid a
close look at
the boy. He then
realised the boy
was examining
people who were
waiting for the
traffic light to
cross and
offered help to
any one who was
struggling.
There was blind
man who felt
quite unsure
about crossing
the road.
The boy came
close to him,
held his hand
and helped him.
Renato was quite
impressed with
his attitude. He
then saw the boy
helping a lady
with lots of
shopping, a
pregnant woman,
|
 |
an old
lady and
even a
dog who
was uncapable to
face the traffic
on his own. |
The little boy
then suddenly
stopped to rest.
Renato now
decided to come
close to him:
— Hi! How are
you? I have
noticed you try
to help people
cross the
street.
The boy looked
at him and said:
— Yes, I enjoy
doing this. It
makes me feel
good. I live
nearby and see
how difficult it
is for anyone to
cross the
street. I try
make myself
usefull in my
spare time.
The man felt
quite surprise
with the boy’s
attitude. He
decided to
introduce
himself:
— I am called
Renato. What
about you?
— Júlio — he
said.
— Nice to meet
you, Júlio. Tell
me: why do you
care about
helping people
you barely know?
The boy thought
for a while and
said:
— Can you see
this building
here? This is
where I live. I
can see many
accidents
happening in
this avenue.
Some time ago,
at school, my
teacher said we
all have to
collaborate with
society. I have
asked her how to
do it and she
said I would
find the answer
if I thought
about it. I then
decided to help
here so no other
accidents can
happen.
— Júlio, you are
still a
child!...
The boy then
said:
— I can only do
what I can.
There are many
adults who could
help with bigger
tasks but don’t
do it.
Renato felt
moved with the
boy’s attitude
and his
objective. “If
everyone acted
like him, world
would be a
better place” —
he thought.
Júlio saw a lady
who was
struggling to
cross the
street. He
excused himself
and went to help
the lady.
 |
Renato continued
to look at the
boy’s behaviour
and felt
surprised!
Renato’s friend
arrived in the
meantime and
excused himself
for his delay.
— I am so sorry,
Renato. Did you
have to wait
long?
Renato then
said:
— Don’t worry
about it.
— Ok, great!
Have you thought
about what we
|
discussed, Renato? |
— Yes, I did. I
want to
collaborate with
the charity you
have been
managing for
years. I will do
what is
necessary.
— I am so happy
to hear that.
Shall we go for
a coffee?
Renato turned
around and saw
Júlio helping an
old man cross
the street. He
smilled at the
boy, who then
smilled back at
him.
