Text for reading

26. The apostles argue over which of them was the greatest - Everyone marveled at the things which Jesus did, and so his disciples could not understand why he insisted that the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of the scribes and elders, and put to death . There arose then among them a discussion about which of them was the greatest. Jesus knew their thoughts, took a child and put him beside her, and told them: "Whoever receives this child in my name welcomes me to me, and whoever receives me, receives I sent because one among you all is the lesser, the same is great." (Luke 9:43 to 9:48.)

27. The foxes have holes, but Jesus has nowhere to lay his head - Rounding up the day for the taking of the Lord, he expressed the firm intention of going to Jerusalem. And for this, sent messengers before his face. They then entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for him inn. The Samaritans, however, did not receive him because his face was as though he was going to Jerusalem. James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we go down fire from heaven and consume them, even as Elias did? Jesus rebuked them, saying, "You do not know what spirit you are. For the Son of man came not to destroy men's lives but to save them." They then went to another village. On the way, someone told him, "Lord, I will follow you wherever you go." Jesus did not hesitate, but said: "The foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." Another, called the Master to follow him, he replied: "Lord, let me first go and bury my father." Jesus remarked: "Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God." A third asked him, "Lord, I will follow, but let me first lay off of those in my house." The Master asserted: "Nobody who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God." (Luke 9:51 to 9:62.)

28. No one knows the Father except the Son - Sent by Jesus to preach the gospel, the seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, by thy name, even the devils are subject". The Master, upon receiving them, asked them not to rejoice because the spirits had been subjected to them, but because their names are written in heaven. At that same moment, Jesus was delighted, saying: "I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, who hid these things from the wise and prudent, and revealed them to little children so, Father, for so You have pleased. All of my Father I was handed, and nobody knows who the Son except the Father, or who the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. " That said, Jesus turned to the disciples and said privately, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see, because I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and have not seen, and hear what you hear, and not heard." (Luke 10:10 to 10:24.)

29. Jesus tells Martha that one thing is needed - after the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus entered a village, and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. Martha had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. Martin walked, however, distracted with much serving, and came and besought Jesus asked his sister to help her. Jesus warned her: "Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken." (Luke 10:38 to 10:42.)

30. The Teacher is accused of to part with Beelzebub, the prince of demons - Jesus had driven out the demon from a man who was dumb, but as he left the devil, the dumb spoke and the crowd was delighted. Some then say, "He casts out demons by Beelzebub, the prince of devils." Others, to try, asked him for a sign from heaven. Jesus, knowing their thoughts said, "Every kingdom divided against itself is desolated, and the house divided against itself will fall. And if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For ye say that I cast out demons by Beelzebub. And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast? And they shall be your judges." Then the Master reminded them: "But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, you surely is the kingdom of God." "When the strong man armed keepeth, your home, safety is everything he has, but, coming a stronger than him, and beat him, strip him all his armor wherein he trusted, and divides his spoils . Who is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. When the unclean spirit is gone out of man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and finding none, he says, will return unto my house whence I came. And he comes and finds it swept and garnished. Then he goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. "(Luke 11:14 to 11:26.)

Answers to questions

1. What do these words of Jesus: Ask, and it is unto you, Seek and ye shall find, knock and the door is open unto you

By saying these words, Jesus said: For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and he who knocks up you will. What father among you who, if his son ask bread, will give a stone? Or, if he shall ask a fish, will give a fish a snake? Or, if he shall ask an egg, will give him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father to those who ask him? The teaching shows, first, that God is a loving father and that Divine Providence is a concrete fact, and secondly, it indicates that we must do our part, or that we should always take the initiative and that it depends crucially achieving the desired result. (Luke 11:5 to 11:13.)

2. One woman said to him: Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed. Jesus answered him?

Jesus said: Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it. (Luke 11:27 and 11:28.)

3. Invited to dinner by a Pharisee in his house, the Pharisee was astonished to see that Jesus was not washed before dinner. Seeing the surprise of the host, who left him Jesus teachings?

The Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. Crazy! Who made the outside also did the interior? But rather give alms of what ye have, and behold, all things are clean unto you. (Luke 11:37 to 11:41.)

4. Warning his disciples to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, that Jesus, in fact, refer?

Jesus was referring to the hypocrisy with which the Pharisees acted, who preached one thing and practiced another. And took the opportunity to make a warning to those who appear but do not practice virtue, saying that there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, nor secret that shall not be known, because everything you say in darkness, the light will be heard; and we talk to ear in closets shall be proclaimed from the housetops. (Luke 12:1 and 12:2.)

5. When a man of the people asked him to send his brother shared with him the legacy left by his father, that answer was given by Jesus?

Jesus said: Man, who made me a judge or divider over you? He added: "Take heed and beware of covetousness, because life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. (Luke 12:13 to 12:15.)
