Nelly saw, while
walking in the
streets, a group
of guys much
older than
himself, whose
appearance
caught his
attention. They
had their heads
shaved and were
dressed in black,
covered with
metal chains and
were sporting
earrings and
piercings.
More than their
physical
appearance, what
draw his
attention to
them was their
attitude of
determination
and courage.
They kept their
heads held high
as if they did
not fear
anything or
anyone.
That group
charmed Nelly,
who was going
through a tough
time at school,
because he
thought that his
colleagues did
not like nor
respected him.
So he decided to
be like them. He
would impose
respect to all
his colleagues.
Thus, on
entering the
house, he asked:
- Mom, I need to
buy some things
for school. Can
I have the money
that grandpa
gave me and that
you kept for me?
The mother,
helpful,
answered:
- Of course, my
son! But may I
know what do you
intend to buy?
- It's a secret.
I will tell you
later.
- Okay, Nelly -
the mother
agreed, getting
the money and
handing it to
her son.
Content, he
thanked her and
left. He
returned a while
later with some
bags and went to
his room. The
mother saw him
arrive with the
packages, but
said nothing.
An hour later
Nelly appeared
in the room. The
mother nearly
fainted with
fright!
- What is this,
son?!...
- Do you like
it, mother? This
is how I will
dress myself
from now on.
She looked at
the boy but
could not
believe what she
was seeing:
Nelly had shaved
his head, which
was bleeding
because of
several minor
cuts. He was
dressed all in
black, with a
metal chain belt
and earrings in
his ears.
The mother sat
down in a chair,
perplexed, and
could hardly
stammer:
- Why ... why
this, my son?
And the boy,
opening his arms,
said:
- Oh, mother! At
school, my
classmates do
not respect me!
They make fun of
me and laugh at
the way I am.
Now they will
have to respect
me! ...
All he said was
accompanied by
profanity.
Horrified -
because her son
had always been
a good boy - she
was thinking
what to do to
convince him
that it was not
a change of
clothes or words
that would make
his colleagues
like him more.
Nelly went to
school, proud of
his new clothes
and change of
attitude.
The mother,
still in shock,
kept thinking
about the
problem until,
finally she made
a decision.
Later, Nelly's
father and older
sister came home
and when they
saw him, they
were also
frightened, but
his mother gave
them a sign and
acted naturally.
She had prepared
dinner as usual.
That afternoon,
she prepared a
vegetable soup,
which everyone
enjoyed. When
placed on the
table, they all
responded,
starting with
Nelly, that was
hungry:
 |
- Mother! What
is this? The
smell is not
good! ...
- It's different!
... - and his
sister with an
expression of
disgust.
The father
remained silent,
although he also
did not like it.
The mother
calmly explained:
- Nelly decided
to give people
his worst: with
his |
clothes,
behaviour, his
words. So, I
decided that we
can also feed
our bodies with
food that is not
as tasty as we
always have.
|
- Please, Mom! I
do not want to
eat this soup!
...
- But you
decided to give
the worst of
yourself to
people, my son.
Starting with
the words that
you are now
using! So, I
thought you
would enjoy our
meal accompanied
by your new way
of being.
The boy thought
for a moment,
and ashamed,
ended up
confessing:
- You're right,
Mom. Today, at
school, my peers
made fun of me,
laughing at my
clothes and
mannerisms,
saying they
liked me as I
was before.
He rubbed his
head,
embarrassed, and
considered:
- I will get rid
of the clothes
and the earrings.
But I do not
know what I'll
do now that I
shaved my head!
...
His mother
embraced him
with affection,
consoling him:
- That is not a
problem, my son.
Hair grows fast!
This lesson,
however, is
important for
you to
understand that
there are things
and attitudes
that we will not
be able to
change so easily,
and if we do, we
will have to
suffer the
consequences.
Therefore, our
decisions must
be well thought
out.
The boy smiled,
admitting:
- I know, Mom.
But all of this
served to make
me understand
that my
colleagues do
like me. I was
the one that
could not see
it! ...
Fortunately the
situation was
solved, but that
thin soup
without
seasoning, was
still on the
table and
everyone was
hungry. The
mother smiled,
watching her
loved ones, and
calmed them down:
- Do not worry.
Everything is
under control.
Aided by her
daughter, she
collected the
dishes from the
table, taking
them to the
kitchen. Then
she returned
with a beautiful
savoury pie she
had prepared and
stored in the
oven.
As usual, they
asked Jesus to
bless the meal
they
|
 |
had on the
table and, with
satisfied smiles,
they began to
eat.
|
Nelly sighed of
relief.
Thankfully, all
was well again.
He would never
forget that day
or the lesson
that he would
surely remember
for the rest of
his life.
