No More Fighting
|
Elliot and Alan,
who were
classmates, were
having many
problems at
school. They did
not get along
and were always
arguing. They
would end up
fighting and not
speaking to each
other for many
days. Then the
hard feelings
would phase out
and they would
make up. Soon,
however, they
would wrangle
again and the
problem would
continue.
|
One day, the
argument was so
bad that Alan
lost control,
became very
angry and,
because he had a
sling,
threatened:
- Elliot will
pay for this! He
will see it!
And, picking up
a pebble on the
floor, threw it
over at his
classmate.
Elliot felt a
blow to the
head, and
immediately put
his hand to his
forehead, hit by
the stone, let
out scream of
pain and began
to cry:
|
- Oh! My
forehead! … |
Seeing his
friend's bloody
forehead, Alan
repented. In
fact, he had
never thought he
could hurt his
friend.
Feeling hurt,
Elliot became
angry and went
after Alan,
pushing him.
Alan fell
awkwardly and
could not get
up, screaming in
pain as well:
- Oh! My leg! …
It was recess
time and the
caretaker,
seeing the
fight,
immediately
called the
teacher, who
asked Alan what
had happened.
- Elliot pushed
me, teacher! -
replied the boy
crying.
|
|
- And where is
Elliot? |
|
- He went away,
teacher, but his
forehead is
wounded - said
one of the
students,
telling what had
happened.
The teacher,
very upset with
the behaviour of
the two students
decided:
- I'll have a
conversation
with them later.
Now we need to
help Alan.
She bent down
and examined
Alan's leg, who
remained on the
floor, unable to
stand up. She
decided to take
him to the
nearest hospital
to be examined
by a doctor.
Examining the
boy, the doctor
found that his
leg had suffered
a fracture and
had to be put in
a cast.
Thus, after the
necessary steps,
Alan was taken
home where his
mother, seeing
him in a cast,
got very
distressed.
The teacher
explained it to
the mother,
saying that he
had had an
argument with a
classmate, but
she would take
action. Leaving
the student at
home, the
teacher left,
but only after
handing over the
doctor's
prescription and
transmitting his
recommendations. |
|
Because Alan was
in pain, he was
taken to his
bedroom. There,
lying on his
bed, Alan
remained
thoughtful.
Lovingly, his
mother brought
him a snack that
he really liked,
but the boy
refused to eat.
The next day, he
remained the
same. Seeing him
so quiet and
sad, his mother
asked:
- What is it, my
son? Don't worry
about it, your
leg will be fine
again!
With tears in
his eyes, Alan
said:
- Mom, I can't
say my prayers.
The mother came
to him and
embraced him:
- Would you like
to tell me
what's going on?
And the boy, in
tears,
confessed:
- Mom, I can't
forgive myself.
I was the one
who started the
fight and I was
so angry with
Elliot that I
used my sling to
throw a stone at
him. Seeing him
with his head
wounded,
dripping blood,
I regretted what
I had done, but
there was no way
to fix it!
- And that's
when he pushed
you, you fell
down and broke
your leg.
- That's right.
His mother was
thoughtful for a
few seconds,
then considered:
- You know,
dear, you can't
pray because you
do not forgive
yourself for
what you did to
your friend.
Jesus teaches us
that, before
praying, we must
make peace with
the brother that
has something
against us.
Because only
then will our
consciences be
in peace and we
can say a true
prayer.
Alan nodded his
head in
agreement.
The next day,
Alan wanted to
go to school and
his mother took
him. Entering
the room, the
teacher and his
classmates were
astonished to
see him there,
on crutches.
Very serious,
Alan said:
- Teacher, can I
say a few words?
- Of course,
Alan.
He seemed to
think a little,
as he looked at
the whole class,
then began:
- I would like
to apologize to
Elliot for
throwing a rock
at him and
wounding his
forehead. I
understand that
his reaction was
a response to my
attitude.
Elliot, we both
could have
caused ourselves
a lot of hurt,
so I ask your
forgiveness for
my attitude. I
would like us to
be friends.
Nothing
justifies
fighting over
little things
when we could
talk and
understand each
other, because
an aggression
leads to
another, and
then another and
another, and
there will be no
end to it,
unless we put an
end to the
fighting,
becoming real
friends.
Elliot, moved at
hearing Alan's
words, stood up
and said:
- I would also
like to ask for
forgiveness,
Alan. After all,
you're on
crutches because
of me! But I
always wished
you well,
despite our
disagreements.
May all of this
be in the past.
Both exchanged a
hug sealing the
friendship that
promised to be
strong and
durable,
starting a new
phase of peace
and
understanding.
The whole class
celebrated,
relieved,
clapping their
hands with joy.
