Hugo, a ten
year-old boy,
was very proud
of his family
and the social
position to
which they
belonged. His
father was a
renowned doctor
in town and was
admired by all.
Therefore, he
considered
himself above
others.
 |
Full of
arrogance, he
would always
refer to his
family as the
best,
disregarding all
others.
His loving mom,
noting the child's
attitudes in
relation to
other people,
would say:
- Hugo, no one
should consider
themself above
others. If we
have a good
situation,
because of your
father's
profession, it
means that we
need to help
other people who
do not have this
blessing!
- But if it were
not for Dad
treating people
in his office,
many who could
not afford an
appointment,
they would still
be sick!
|
- That is
exactly what I
am telling you,
dear. Poor
people do not
have anyone to
turn to except
your father, who
treats them with
love and
dedication.
Thank God every
day for the
father you have!
Imagine if we
were in their
shoes, in pain
and having to
beg a doctor to
see us? |
The boy would
hang his head,
but keep
thinking and
feeling the same
way.
One day Hugo
went out cycling.
It was such a
beautiful day
that he did not
realize that he
had already
ridden it a long
way. Before he
noticed, he was
in an area he
did not know.
Large trees
along the narrow
path hardly let
any sunlight
through. Looking
at a bird
singing high
above, Hugo lost
his balance and
fell off the
bike, hitting
his head on a
rock. Everything
went dark. Hugo
could not see
anything.
He came to
hearing voices
around him.
People were
trying to wake
him up. They
were concerned
because they saw
a cut in his
head and wanted
to help him but
did not know
how. Then,
someone said:
- OK, he's
coming to! Boy,
how are you? Are
you in pain?
What is your
name?
Seeing a ragged
man speaking to
him, Hugo shook
his head:
- I do not know.
What happened?
Those poor but
very nice people
wanted to know
where he lived,
what his name
was, what were
the names of his
parents, but the
boy did not
remember
anything.
- Well... the
blow was very
strong - said
Benedict, the
most enlightened
among those
people.
- Benedict, what
do we do now?...
This boy is from
a rich family!
Can't you tell
from his
clothes, shoes
and his bike?
- I know, but
what can we do?
It is best to
take the boy to
my house, while
I take the
necessary
measures, such
as notifying the
police and
putting a
message on the
radio so that
his parents are
made aware as
soon as
possible.
Hugo was
transported to
Benedict and
Laura's house,
and put in an
old bed. The boy
was in pain so
Laura prepared
and gave him
tea. Soon, he
felt better. He
slept a little
and upon waking
up, Hugo looked
at the wooden
room where he
was, without
recognizing the
place:
- Where am I?
What am I doing
here? - he
murmured.
- Good to see
you awake! How
are you feeling?
Are you still in
pain? - Laura
asked as she
came from the
kitchen where
she prepared a
soup when she
heard him speak.
Hugo put a hand
to his head,
where there was
an improvised
dressing:
- I do not feel
any pain. Where
am I?
- You are in our
home. I'm Laura,
and my husband
is Benedict. And
you, what's your
name?
Shaking his
head, he replied
that he did not
know. Suddenly,
Benedict
returned with
someone. He was
a doctor.
- Look, doctor!
This boy fell in
the middle of a
nearby forest
and hit his head
on a rock!
The doctor
looked at the
boy and felt
tears trickle
down his face,
relieved:
- Hugo... My
son, what
happened!?!
The boy's eyes
widened when he
heard that voice
so dear to him
call him Hugo.
- Daddy! I do
not know what
happened? All I
can remember is
that I was
riding my
bike...
The doctor sat
down on the bed,
examined the
child and then
said:
- It was
nothing, son.
Thanks to God
and the kindness
of these people
who rescued you!
Thank you, my
friends!
|
 |
Benedict and
Laura were also
moved.
Benedict said:
- We did not do
anything,
doctor! All we
did was bring
him to our house
and Laura made
him some tea, to
relieve his pain.
- But I'm
finishing a soup
for the kid,
that is, for
Hugo. Would you
like a bowl of
soup, doctor?
- Of course I
do!
Hugo was hungry
and also had the
soup, which he
really liked.
When he had
finished it, the
doctor stood up
and said:
- I thank you
for the help you
gave to my son.
If it were not
for Benedict,
who I had
already known
because he had
called me when
sick people
needed help, I
would not know
where to look
for Hugo. And he
ended up by
saying:
- Whenever you
need me, I will
be there for you!
We are all
brothers before
God our Father!
And Hugo,
hugging them,
added:
- Thanks for
everything. I
would like to
introduce you to
my mother; I'm
sure you will
like her. I will
be waiting for
you tomorrow at
our home,
without fail!
