Nine year-old
Flavia, while
sitting at the
table with her
parents, was
chosen to say a
prayer before
lunch that day.
The girl was
worried and did
not know what to
say in the
prayer because
she had had an
argument with
her friend
Cynthia and had
a heavy heart.
As her daughter
was taking
forever to start
the prayer, her
mother
encouraged her:
- Come on,
Flavia, we are
waiting!
But the girl had
no condition to
pray because she
felt she was at
fault with her
friend and said:
- Mom, can you
say the prayer
for me? I cannot!
Her mother
realized that
something had
happened and
agreed, praying
for all who were
there. Then
lunch went on in
an atmosphere of
peace and joy,
as always. But
Flavia could not
display that
smile that could
light up an
entire room.
After lunch, the
mother asked her
daughter to help
her clean the
kitchen, and the
others went to
the living room.
The girl,
however,
continued with
the long face of
someone who's in
trouble, and her
mother asked:
- You are not
well today,
Flavia. Did
something happen?
Hearing that
question, Flavia
began to cry.
The kind mother
pulled out a
chair for her
daughter and
settled next to
her, talking
with immense
affection:
- Honey, do you
want to tell me
what's going on?
Maybe I can help
you...
The girl wiped
her tears and
said:
- Mom, yesterday
you read a
passage of the
Gospel to me
where Jesus said
that before
saying a prayer
we must void our
heart of
|
 |
all bad
feelings within
it, and if we
have something
against someone,
we must find
them and ask for
forgiveness.
Only then our
prayer will be
accepted! |
The mother
hugged her
tightly and
considered:
- I see. You are
having a problem
with one of your
friends, right?
- It is with
Cynthia. We
fought for a
silly reason but
she does not
forgive me. Or
even talk to me!
I'm sad because
I like her very
much.
Her mother
consoled her:
- Honey, Jesus
said that when
we have anything
against anyone,
before praying,
we should
forgive that
person because
only then God,
our Father, will
also forgive our
faults. Have you
forgiven her?
- I don't think
so, Mom. That's
why I am
suffering.
- I understand,
dear. But if it
bothers you so
much think of a
way to solve
this problem.
What would you
really like to
do?
- I would like
to tell her that
I was wrong and
ask for
forgiveness!
- Great! So to
do that try to
approach her
again. Now go to
your room, say a
prayer and ask
Jesus for help.
Flavia went to
her room, sat on
the bed and said
a prayer, asking
Jesus to help
her solve the
problem with her
friend. Help was
quick to come.
After the
prayer, Flavia
became pensive.
She thought
really hard
until an idea
popped into her
little head: I
know what to do!
I'm sure it will
work!
The girl ran to
the kitchen and
asked her
mother:
- Mom, let's
make that yummy
chocolate cake?
I'll help!
The mother
agreed and
together they
made the cake.
When her mother
put it into the
oven, Flavia was
very pleased.
Now she would
only have to
wait for the
cake to bake.
Some time later,
a very nice
smell of baked
cake took over
of the house and
the
neighbourhood.
As expected,
Flavia heard a
knocked on the
door. It was
Cynthia, her
friend, who was
calling her to
play outside.
She never
resisted the
smell of that
cake!
Flavia hugged
her lovingly and
asked:
- I am glad you
came, Cynthia.
How about before
playing we eat a
piece of the
cake that just
came out of the
oven?
 |
- Ah! It must be
delicious,
Flavia! - said
her neighbour.
So Flavia looked
at her mother,
who encouraged
her, and the
girl served a
piece of the
delicious
chocolate cake
that her mother
baked to her
visitor!
|
Talking to
Cynthia, Flavia
noticed that
everything was
fine between
them. They
laughed and
talked all
afternoon. When
Cynthia said she
was leaving,
Flavia took her
to the gate and
said:
- Cynthia, the
other day I
think I hurt you
and I would like
to apologize. I
did not mean it
and ...
But Cynthia
hugged her
friend and shook
her head saying:
- There is
nothing to
apologize,
Flavia. It's all
right. I missed
our
conversations
and laughter. If
someone has to
apologize that
someone is me!
So they
embraced each
other and sealed
a peace
agreement. Their
friendship was
more important
than anything
else!
