Tony and Carl
were classmates,
but Tony didn’t
seem to like
Carl too much.
He came from a
poor family that
lived very far
from where his
school was
located. His
house was very
simple whereas
Carl came from a
rich family. He
dressed up
nicely and
always ate
better food than
the rest of the
children at
school.
This is the
reason why Tony
didn’t like him.
He always
thought he was
full of pride
and distant.
Deep down, he
felt jealous of
him.
One day both
children arrived
earlier at
school. The rest
of the group
wasn’t there
yet. Tony didn’t
have anyone to
talk to and
decided to get
closer to Carl.
Tony then
realised Carl
was a nice boy.
He then asked:
— Why are always
on your own at
break time?
— I am very
shy, actually...
— Carl replied.
Tony couldn’t
stop wondering:

Tony couldn’t
stop wondering:
|
— Shy? You? I
always thought
you considered
yourself to be
too good to be
playing with
us!
They became good
friends. Carl
then invited
Tony to come to
his house one
day. He was
quite poor and
always wanted to
get to know
Carl’s house.
On the day they
agreed the
driver came to
Tony’s house to
pick him up. He
was excited to
see the big car
that was going
to drive him
around town.
As they got
closer to the
mansion where
Carl lived, the
other boy
couldn’t stop
feeling
enthusiastic
about this
experience.
Tony then talked
to Carl, as they
arrived at the
big property:
— Wow! You must
feel so happy
for being able
to live here,
Car!
Carl then
replied, looking
quite sad:
— No, I am not
happy.
— Why not? —
Tony wondered. —
You have
everything!
There is even a
pool here where
you can swim
anytime you
want!
— No, I can’t. I
suffer from
bronchitis and I
am afraid of
getting sick.
Please feel free
to swim as much
as you want.
— But you can
buy whatever you
want; eat ice
creams...
— No, you are
mistaken. I
suffer from
tonsillitis and
can’t eat ice
creams.
— But you can
eat sweets,
cakes, etc.
|
 |
 |
— I have
diabetes and
can’t eat sweets
— Carl
mentioned.
Tony tried to
find something
to cheer his
friend up:
|
— But
you have
a big
and
beautiful
house! I
would be
happy
just to
be
living
here. |
Carl then said,
with a sad look
at his face:
— Yeah, this
house is huge
but empty. I
live here with
my dad only. My
mom disincarnate
when I was
little. I miss
her so much.
Tony was quite
shocked to find
out that things
are very
different from
what they look
like...
He said good-bye
to Carl by the
end of the day.
He felt like
crying when he
got closer to
his home. It
looked so simple
but pretty at
the same time.
His mom got
close to him and
gave him a big
hug. He felt so
moved with her
gesture.
Tony then told
her what just
happened on that
day and
concluded:
— Oh, mom! I now
realise being
rich in not
everything in
life. Some
things are much
more important
than that. I
would love to
help my friend
Carl, but I
don’t know how!
— Yes, my son.
Let’s do
whatever
possible to make
his life
happier. You can
count on me.
The lady stopped
to think for a
little while and
suggested:
— Let’s start by
talking to him
about the
immortality of
the soul. As
spiritists, we
can give him
console and
hope. We can
explain to him
his mom is still
alive and
continues to
love and protect
him wherever she
is now. We can
also tell him
that one day
they can meet
again.
Tony looked at
his mom and
said:
— Yes, mom. How
come I didn’t
think about this
before? Carl
will be very
happy to hear
that and will
start to see
life in a
different way.
He then took a
deep breath and
then said:
— I am so happy!
I always thought
I have nothing
but now I
realise I have
everything I
need.
