Once upon a
time, in a
beautiful
forest, the
animals were
worried about
their future and
came together to
talk. The birds
flew through the
sky, saw what
was happening
and then came
tell the others.
The parrot said:
 |
- Believe you
me! The forest
was on fire in
many places!
- But that's not
all! There are
places where men
are cutting down
trees. After
placing the
timber in big
trucks, they set
fire to the
ground! - added
a toucan.
- How terrible!
- exclaimed the
terrified
animals,
listening with
sadness.
|
- The smoke
invades
everything and
many animals die
suffocated!
Birds and
animals are
desperate.
Homeless, they
will come here
for help! ... -
completed the
monkey, seated
on the branch of
a tree. |
|
|
The lion, king
of the forest,
was thoughtful.
Then he asked:
- Does anyone
have any
suggestions on
how to resolve
this serious
situation, which
endangers our
homes and the
life of the
forest?
The tortoise
raised his paw
and suggested:
- I suggest that
the elephant
fills his trunk
with
|
 |
water
and
pours it
over the
fire to
put it
out! |
|
- Do not talk
nonsense! Even
with a large
trunk, how to
fill it up
again? While
going up the
river and back,
the fire would
take over
everything!
Moreover, it
wouldn't resolve
the issue of
deforestation -
the elephant
replied.
All agreed. The
deer ventured a
guess:
- And what if we
go over there to
talk to the men
and explain the
situation?
- They would
kill us to sell
our skins -
replied the
jaguar, licking
its fur.
Each one
presented a
different idea,
which was always
rejected by the
others.
Discouraged,
they were
already at the
end of the
meeting, when
the owl, who had
remained silent,
said:
- I know how to
solve these
problems.
- You do? -
asked the lion,
interested –
Well, then tell
us! What's the
solution?
The owl, who was
very wise,
puffed out his
chest and said:
 |
- Very well, if
it were you who
were practising
these crimes,
what could make
you stop?What
would be the
strongest
argument?
The animals were
silent, thinking
of the answer.
After a while
they had to
confess their
ignorance.
- Tell us, Mr.
Owl! Do you want
to kill us out
of expectation?
... - roared the
lion.
The owl widened
his eyes even
more, stroke a
pose
|
and
replied: |
|
- It's easy!
Each of us
supports our
families with
much love,
defending them
from all dangers
and wishing the
best for them,
is it not?
- Yes! This we
already know!
But what is the
connection with
our question of
survival? After
all, men will
end up coming to
us! - replied
the lion,
worried.
- Don't you see?
If we protect
our families,
they also
protect their
families! If we
can get the
children, who
are more
sensitive, to
defend us,
showing them the
importance of
preserving the
forest for the
lives of all, we
will have solved
the problem of
destruction. We
just need to
figure out who
will talk to
their children!
- That's right!
You are right!
Long live the
owl! ... -
shouted all in
uproar.
They knew where
to find them.
The men lived in
villages near
the
deforestation
area.
The lion's eyes
twinkled. The
other animals
were also
happier. The
king of beasts
asked who would
talk to the
children.
- The parrot,
since it is the
only one who
speaks their
language! -
suggested the
owl.
Thus resolved,
the parrot, as
the ambassador
of the animals,
took off and
went to the
village.
There he found
the children
playing. He told
them about what
was happening to
the animals,
told them about
the destruction
of the forest by
the fire that
was spreading
everywhere,
threatening the
lives of all the
inhabitants of
the forest. And
concluded:
- When men
destroy the
entire forest,
there will be no
more life. All
animals, birds
and insects will
lose their homes
and have nowhere
to live.
The children,
caring and
loving, heard it
worried. Then
went looking for
their parents,
who they told
what was
happening.
Faust, the owner
of the company
responsible for
the
deforestation,
said:
- But you are
not in danger!
The danger is
only for the
animals!
- No, Daddy! -
said Lucy,
Faust's
daughter, with
the approval of
the others -
what you are
doing destroys
"our" world!
When you finish
with it, how
will we live?
The air is full
of smoke and I
can't even
breathe right!
When you destroy
everything, what
will become of
us? Because you
have toppled
other woods and
will continue to
destroy more.
And what will
become of our
planet? We have
to care for the
environment and
nature, Dad! ...
The mothers also
joined the
movement, and so
much did the
children and the
mothers explain,
weep and pray,
asking the
support of
Jesus, that
Faust eventually
acknowledged
that they were
right:
- All right! All
right! You win!
Stop crying! ...
The children
began to jump in
their parents
laps, screaming
with joy and
satisfaction.
The parrot flew
to the clearing
of the forest
where the
animals were
waiting for an
answer:
- The children
did it. They are
our friends!
We're saved!
...Hurray!
Hurray! ...
And that night,
all celebrated
the victory in
the forest. They
knew that it was
not one side or
the other that
had won, but
all, for who had
won was planet
Earth.
There was much
to do. Faust
gathered his men
and ordered
measures to
contain the
fire. Then they
would take care
of the
reforestation of
that region and
whatever else
was needed.
Peace returned
to the forest
and they thanked
Jesus and the
children for
their help.
